"Andy, Chris, Daisy, and the 7-man roofing crew were professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. They did an outstanding job, excellent price, and not one piece of roofing material or nails in the flower beds or lawn. Andy and Chris kept in communication with me throughout the entire project. They also took care of the new gutters for me. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending Florida Top Shield Roofing!"

"Project was a reroof of a concrete tile Florida home. My Florida Roofing exceeded all possible expectations for product delivery from supplier, project management, work progress updates, price, removal of existing concrete tile, installation of water barriers, and new tile installation. They were able to reuse existing gutters saving us money where others quoted that we would need new roof gutters. Worksite was left clean everyday during the project. I would highly recommend this company for large or small roofing projects. On a scale of 1 to 5, they are a 10!"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Yes, shingles should overhang the drip edge, typically between 1/2-inch and 3/4-inch. An overhang shorter than 1/2-inch can allow wind-driven rain to get under the shingles and damage the roof deck or fascia. Conversely, an overhang longer than 3/4-inch increases the risk of shingles getting caught by strong winds, which can lead to roof uplift. Always check your local building code for exact overhang requirements in your area.

No, you should not close or cover your gable vents in the winter. While it might seem logical to block cold air, heating your home creates hot air that rises and can cause condensation in the attic. If the vents are covered, this moisture becomes trapped, creating an ideal environment for mold and mildew. Keeping the gable vents open ensures proper ventilation, which helps dry out the attic, maintain even temperatures, and prevent moisture-related damage.

In most cases and locations, roofs with a single layer of asphalt roofing shingles won't require roof removal before installing a metal roof. However, underlayment may be necessary on roofs with moderate shingle damage. Heavily damaged roofs or ones with multiple shingle layers will most likely require removal before a metal roof can go on.

Underlayment exists under your tile roof. It helps protect your home by acting as a secondary water barrier. Often, when roof tiles fall off, underlayment that's in good condition can temporarily keep water from getting into the home. However, immediate replacement of missing tiles is crucial to avoid additional roof damage.

The most common slope, or roof pitch, for a shed is 4:12 or four inches of height for every horizontal foot. For areas that experience heavy snow loads, a steeper roof of 6:12 or 9:12 is best.
