"Went very well, considering I needed my furnance fixed on a Sunday. I was able to call up at 7am and the tech was out to my house later that morning. Juan did a great job, fixed the problem and explained to me what he did. I would hire this company and ask for Juan if you have any HVAC needs."

Small jobs welcome

"Adam actually returned my first call. He made an appointment and arrived on time. We are slowly restoring our Victorian home where you never know what you will find next. He was very professional and installed wiring where there had been a gas light and put it on a 3 way switch. Avery pleasant experience. Highly recommend.."

"He spent 7 hours doing an amazing job. He said it usually only takes 4-5 but my ducts were dirty being an older house I just bought. I could not have been more thrilled with his work, he did not even stop to take lunch so I made sure he had some water to drink. I tipped him extra he was so thorough. I will always call them for my duct cleaning needs and will recommend them to all friends. Incredibly fair price."

"Superior called to confirm the appointment a day before. Two guys from Superior showed up at the scheduled time. It took them less than two hours to do the work. They had to move some furniture to get at a few duct vents and they put everything back where it had been. The sanitizing spray had a slight odor that my wife objected to but didn't bother me. The smell dissipated within 24 hours or so as the HVAC system was used. I would use Superior again."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Signs that your air conditioner capacitor is bad or failing include a range of symptoms. The AC unit may not turn on at all, or it might struggle to start before shutting down randomly or in the middle of a cooling cycle. You might hear a humming or banging noise when it attempts to start, or the compressor might hum without the unit actually running. Other indicators include a smell or smoke coming from the unit, the blower circulating room-temperature air instead of cold air, and an unexpected increase in your energy bills.

To keep your air conditioner in good working condition, you should have it serviced by a professional at least once per year, ideally in the spring before the cooling season begins. If your AC unit is 10 years or older, consider servicing it twice a year (once in the spring and once in the fall) to catch potential problems early and help it reach its full lifespan. During a service visit, a technician will inspect, clean, and replace parts as needed. Regular maintenance helps avoid costly repairs. As a DIY task, you can also clean the evaporator coils annually.

AC evaporator coils should be cleaned at least once per year to keep your unit in good condition. For optimal performance, consider cleaning them twice a year—once before and once after the main cooling season. More frequent cleanings may be necessary for older systems, units with performance issues, or those in climates with high levels of humidity, dust, and dirt.

No. Evaporator coils are designed to work with specific refrigerant types, and they are rated by what kinds of refrigerant they use. It’s indicated with an “R” code. It’s important to match your evaporator coil and refrigerant or your system will not work properly. An AC technician can tell you what type of refrigerant your system needs and what evaporator coils will work with it.

Window ACs use 500 to 1,400 watts per hour of electricity, while mini-splits use 500 to 700 watts per hour. However, if you need to cool multiple zones in your house, your mini-split can use as much as 2,000 watts per hour. How often you run your system will impact how much electricity you use (and how much you pay per month).
