"What an amazing experience. Joe was by far the best carpet person (and overall person) I have met. He was very diliberate in making sure our carpet was installed right on time and even stayed late to make sure our carpet was installed 100% the second day (we have a VERY large home). He is a people person. My helped my 12 year old daughter with the understanding of the new vacuum (because she asked). I never trust anyone with her and yet he was such a good person and so gentle that I trusted my entire family around him. I had a problem with a stair outside (nothing to do with the carpet itself) and he saw me struggeling with it. He came outside immediately and fixed what I was struggeling with. I would have been working on it for hours or never have it fixed because I did not have the right tools if he did not willingly come and help. He offered me lunch the second day because I was hungry due to the work that I had been doing (which I graceously said no to). But, this is this mans character. His work is stunning others and we chose the cheaper carpet (due to the fact we only did this to move). The way they did the work made the carpet look like an expensive carpet and it feels like an expensive carpet. So, I am not even sure if they did not actually use a more expensive carpet for sure. I know that he just wants to make sure that people are really taken care of unlike all the other people who quoted me way above what he did (one by 5,000.00 above what he quoted). Trust me. You will want his hands on your home."

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, carpeted stairs are generally considered safer than stairs with hard surfaces like wood, vinyl, or tile. Carpet provides more traction, which helps reduce the chances of slips and falls, and its cushioning can lessen the severity of an injury if a fall does occur. Hard surfaces often lack the friction needed for a secure tread and can be quite slippery.

However, it's worth noting that some carpets can also be slick, particularly if they are brand new, dirty, or made from certain materials. If any stair surface feels too slippery, traction treads can be added to most materials to increase grip and improve safety.

Taking carpet off stairs is an easy but multi-step process you can usually do yourself. If you have the right tools, time, and oomph to finish the job, removing carpet from stairs can be an easy-to-medium difficulty task, depending on your stairs, the type of carpet installed, and how willing you are to get your hands dirty. It’s important to review the process, gather the right tools before you begin, and follow a tutorial or directions while you work.

Costs depend on carpet type, labor rates, and additional services like padding or transitions.

Carpeting has a few benefits on stairs in addition to being a cost-effective floor covering. It absorbs sound, dampening footsteps. It also provides additional traction, which is especially important if you install linoleum floors, epoxy flooring, or any other floor covering that can become slippery if you’re wearing socks. Therefore, carpets can help prevent slips.

Deciding whether to clean or replace your carpet depends on its condition and age. If cleaning no longer resolves issues, it's time to consider a replacement. Key signs that you need to replace your carpet include:

  • Stains that are impossible to remove.

  • A persistent smell that lingers even after cleaning.

  • An increase in allergy symptoms.

  • The age of the carpet. Most manufacturers state that carpets should last about 10 years with proper care.

When cleaning is no longer effective, you should replace the carpet with a new one or consider other flooring options like vinyl or laminate.
