"David and his team were very responsive, and able to meet my time frame and were swift in removing all boxes, wrapping paper and bubble wrap from our garage. They were pleasant, efficient, and fast. Price was reasonable and I will definitely hire them again. Thanks!!!"

Small jobs welcome

"This family team is great. Thorough, polite, professional and careful. After I booked, a metal shed was blown apart by hugh winds. They dug up the panels buried in the snow, cut the panels up into right sized pieces and removed the whole thing. Extraordinary customer service."

"Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value 10 stars! I can't say enough about Neal and his company SPACE WORKS. I had Neal do all the above from a house I inherited. The house, garage and yard were an absolute mess accumulated over 60 years. Neal and his crew hauled it all away over two days worth of intense hard work. Neal and crew were very professional, polite, on time, and the clean up was amazing! Real Americans who were not afraid of hard work. All the "junk" was separated on site for recycle. Neal stated he prefers to avoid landfills when possible. Neal's price was very affordable and he was willing to work with us. OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE! 10 STARS! Services: Electronic waste removal & disposal, Junk removal, House & garage cleanouts, Furniture removal, Waste recycling, Yard debris removal, Mattress removal & disposal, Trash removal & disposal, Appliance removal & disposal"

Garbage Collection questions, answered by experts

On average, it takes one to four hours for a professional to install a garbage disposal. This includes removing the old unit, taking necessary measurements for positioning, removing and fitting new pipes, and installing the brand-new disposal system. If there are unforeseen issues, such as accessibility concerns, the process takes longer.

These appliances certainly increase the number of things allowed down the drain, but they’re not foolproof. There are several items you shouldn’t put in your garbage disposal, according to manufacturers and technicians. Don’t put coffee grounds down the drain. The same goes for eggshells, potato peels, hard foods, onion skins, and any dry, expandable food. Most importantly, never put grease or oils down the drain.

While the drain connection for a garbage disposal is nearly universal and fits standard sink drain holes of 3 1/2 to 4 inches, the size of the disposal unit itself is not. You must have enough space in the cabinet underneath your sink to accommodate the disposal's housing. A larger model may not fit in a compact cabinet or if the existing plumbing is arranged in an unusual way. Before buying a new garbage disposal, measure the available space under your sink. If you are replacing an old unit, it's often easiest to choose a new model of a similar size.

Replacing a garbage disposal costs anywhere from $150 to $950, but the average cost is somewhere around $550. There are two types of garbage disposal units, and continuous feed disposals tend to cost more than batch feed disposals. Going for an aluminum garbage disposal is also significantly cheaper than choosing a stainless steel garbage disposal. You'll also need to factor in the horsepower of the motor, labor, and the removal and disposal of your old unit.

The two main negatives of garbage disposals are they are a safety hazard in homes with children, and they frequently encounter blockage issues. While they might be annoying to fix and monitor, garbage disposals can significantly lower your trash use and are a great way to dispose of organic waste. While there are negatives, the vast majority of homeowners acknowledge the positives are enough to install a disposal in their home.
