Small jobs welcome

"Dave worked diligently all day long and was undaunted by the sheer tedium of a large job assembling 2 sets of patio furniture. Pleasant and polite, clearly competent and focused on getting the work done and done well. I would hire him again!"

"I hired Brett with BATCO to build two separate decks for my Airbnb properties. He arrived on time, and even though he bid me a certain number, the second deck took less time than expected and I ended up paying less than I was quoted. Brett did an outstanding job and I couldn’t have been more pleased with the outcome given the decks are exposed to heavy weather conditions like rain and snow. You can tell Brett is a professional and knows what he’s doing. It’s always comforting knowing you have a contractor who’s legit, licensed+insured. Couldn’t recommend BATCO more."

"I highly recommend Vobiscum Construction Inc for any home improvements you need done. Leo, Marco and the whole team with Vobiscum were excellent. They were attentive and easy to coordinate with through the entire process. They finished the project quickly and seamlessly, I’m so impressed. I had quite a large project on my single story home that needed completion (urgent frame and truss repair, roof replacement, fascia replacement and more). The roof and carpentry work came out beautiful, the pictures don’t do it justice. I no longer have to worry about a leaking roof or failing structure. I can’t thank them enough for their help and for giving me peace of mind. Thank you Vobiscum and your team!"

Customers say: Terrific value

"Trustworthy. Reliable. Professional. Great Communication. Beautiful Transformation. Integrity. Honest. Very Reasonably Priced. Daniel Anderson of Anderson's Finish Carpentry is a highly skilled professional. He is a man of his word. He arrives early and finished the job on time. He left the worksite immaculately clean every evening. He is an excellent communicator; he kept me informed about the progress daily. He charged a very reasonable price and did even more than he was paid for, extra details make such a difference. He went above and beyond! He does the work himself and when he has an assistant, he supervised carefully. His name is on the work and he sees to it that every aspect of the job is done correctly and to my satisfaction. Daniel transformed our old dangerous disaster of a deck into a new beautiful place we can safely enjoy with our friends. From now on Daniel Anderson is our "go to guy" for all our woodworking projects and you should make him your guy too!"

"Sean Ireland was our designer/main contact and I can't say enough great things about him - he is not only friendly and very prompt in his communication but an A+ when is comes to design skills and creativity!  We had a few awkwardly placed outlets and he found very creative workarounds to get us beautiful looking pieces that were incredibly functional too.   And I'll be the first to admit that I was not the easiest to work with - I changed my mind several times and went back on forth on many details - Sean never got frustrated with me and I'm SO happy with the end product!  The pieces look beautiful and are very great quality as well.  Overall, we are VERY happy with the outcome!

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

You can choose 5/8-inch plywood or 3/4-inch plywood—anything thinner than these sizes may not withstand the impact of debris propelled by strong winds or can be easily torn off by intruders. Remember that the durability of the wood board is crucial, particularly for safeguarding your windows during severe storms. The effectiveness of using wood boards for protecting the investment you made in your home relies on using the appropriate material and ensuring proper installation.

Yes, a 2x6 should hold a porch swing and safely support the load. A smaller joist runs the risk of it not offering enough support for the swing. If you have a joist smaller than 2x6, add additional bolstering support.

Modern brick houses are really stick-built homes with a brick facade for aesthetic purposes only, so most have framing. With genuine brick construction, most homeowners install furring strips over the interior of the brick and then install drywall over those strips to cover the brick wall, so they don’t have traditional framing.

It’s sometimes safe to replace a load-bearing wall with a beam, but you need a structural engineer to sign off on the project. You’ll also likely have to upgrade to a steel I-beam or another material that’s stronger than wood to maintain the level of support you need without the wall underneath.

Bump-out additions can add some space to a closet without requiring any significant structural work. This entails pushing back the existing rear or side of the closet, simply moving the wall into either an adjacent room or unused space. For ground-floor closets, this could even be extended to the exterior of the home, but that has its own complications. Bump-outs are a good discussion to have with your contractor if you’re just looking to increase the space a little—not renovate the entire closet space.
