"I couldnâ t have found a more talented, experienced, professional, always on time contractor & crew to remodel my 1926 bathroom, install pullout drawers in my kitchen pantry, & fix some cabinet doors. He listened to my ideas, and now I have my dream bathroom with Mexican tile. Quality Renovations also installed a new door & frame to accommodate my wheelchair. I was so impressed with there craftsmanship I had them do numerous smaller jobs, like a door & door frame & floor that had leaked when we last had heavy rain. They will definitely be my first choice to do any future remodeling. They are a joy to work with ( my lab agrees). I highly recommend Quality Renovation Solutions."

"I hired Brett with BATCO to build two separate decks for my Airbnb properties. He arrived on time, and even though he bid me a certain number, the second deck took less time than expected and I ended up paying less than I was quoted. Brett did an outstanding job and I couldn’t have been more pleased with the outcome given the decks are exposed to heavy weather conditions like rain and snow. You can tell Brett is a professional and knows what he’s doing. It’s always comforting knowing you have a contractor who’s legit, licensed+insured. Couldn’t recommend BATCO more."

"I highly recommend Vobiscum Construction Inc for any home improvements you need done. Leo, Marco and the whole team with Vobiscum were excellent. They were attentive and easy to coordinate with through the entire process. They finished the project quickly and seamlessly, I’m so impressed. I had quite a large project on my single story home that needed completion (urgent frame and truss repair, roof replacement, fascia replacement and more). The roof and carpentry work came out beautiful, the pictures don’t do it justice. I no longer have to worry about a leaking roof or failing structure. I can’t thank them enough for their help and for giving me peace of mind. Thank you Vobiscum and your team!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

The best way to calculate framing costs is by basing your costs on the square footage of your home. On average, framing your home could cost anywhere between $7 and $16 per square foot.

To ensure you don’t go over budget, base your estimates on the higher end of the price range. If you know you’re going to use high-end materials or require a custom or complex build, you might even want to tack on an additional 5% of your budget.

You may need a permit to install your window seat. Even though it's an indoor modification, some municipalities require permits for any built-ins added to homes. Check with your carpenter or, if you're DIY-ing, do some research on your city's requirements.

The cost to frame a 2,000-square-foot house can fall anywhere between $14,000 and $32,000. This price can increase or decrease depending on what type of framing you choose, the quality of the materials, the project's complexity, and whether you decide to hire a professional to do the job.

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

The primary parts of a house that need framing during construction are floors, exterior walls, interior walls, and the roof. The framing in these areas provides the skeleton for adding other materials over the top. With walls, for example, contractors can hang drywall over the interior walls and siding over the outside of the exterior walls. Proper framing ensures a sturdy house that is built to last.
