"Mr. Deshwal helped us with the architecture and structural engineering in our home remodel project. He helped us with the permit process and getting our designs iterated and approved with the City of Sunnyvale on time. He also helped with an addition of the master suite. He is very knowledgeable and helpful. We had several changes in our requirements along the way, and Mr. Deshwal was very flexible and supportive. We are very satisfied with his work and highly recommend him"

"Upon purchasing our home, we were greeted by a peculiar layout in the master bathroom: an uncomfortably small shower directly facing the toilet, flanked by a cabinet and closet on the left. In our quest for a remodel, we invited 5-6 contractors for proposals, yet it was Daniel who stood out by presenting an ingenious solution. His proposal not only significantly enlarged the shower space but also optimized the overall layout, demonstrating his exceptional expertise. Consequently, we entrusted Daniel with our remodeling project. Throughout the renovation, Daniel, along with his team members Nick and Jorge, exhibited remarkable dedication and craftsmanship, culminating in flawless execution. Although the project extended slightly beyond the initial timeline, the quality of their work affirmed its value. They were consistently receptive to our ideas and queries, ensuring open communication and addressing any specific requests we had. Moreover, their respect for our home was evident, as they diligently protected our floors with rugs and shielded the bedroom with plastic film. I wholeheartedly recommend Daniel and his team for their professionalism, skill, and consideration. They will undoubtedly be our first choice for any future remodeling endeavors."

"Due to a large crack in my ceiling, I thought I might have a structural issue. Hogan Land Services was prompt in sending someone out to take a look at the issue. After a quick inspection of the attic and crawl space, they determined there were no structural issues. Therefore, there was no need for a structural engineer. Here we are a couple years later and doors are not lined up, the crack in the ceiling continues to get longer and wider, and more cracks in the ceiling and walls. Hogan Land Services was quick to reply to my concerns, giving more information on what could be causing the issues I'm experiencing and what route to take to alleviate the issues."

Customers say: True professional

"We had an exceptional positive experience working with them. Mike Amini, architect, suggested several changes in the main floor that really opened up the house and pointed out the beautiful view we have out the rear of the house. Matt Amini, stuctural engineer, was the Project Manager. He is very much a perfectionist and all of his suggestions were excellent giving us an expert cost vs. benefit opinion based on his experience. They started the house in December, 2009 and finished it in August, 2010. Since they had to almost completely rebuilt the house, we thought that was really fast. They worked continuously and were not always running off to other jobs. Matt responded immediately to any request we had. We also found that all of the subcontractors he hired on the job were incredible craftsmens with close attention to detail. We also worked with a designer on the job which I know can be difficult interacting with contractors, but they worked together to give us the very best end result. This is a family business where they all work cohesively together. No one is pointing fingers at each other if and when mistakes are made - a big advantage of their vertical integration. Obviously, losing our house and everything in it was quite devastating to us (we are in our 60's), but working with the Craftsmen's Guild and their vision for our house really brought us out of our emotional lows. Seeing the vision they had for the house and watching it unfold was really exciting for us! The finished house is really incredible. This would not have happened were it not for the Craftsmens Guild. We are currently landscaping the house and using Matt's cousin, Parviz Emani, from Modern Construction Design, who is also doing a fabulous job! I read one of the other reviews here that was negative and, quite frankly, we experienced NONE of the problems they seemed to have had with the Craftsmens Guild and we worked with them for about 10 months! Even now - after we have given the Craftsmen's Guild our final payment, we are still adding some additional features. We call Matt and he responds immediately to our requests!"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can build over a stump if the roots are no longer alive. Living roots will continue to grow and may damage your new construction over time. Similarly, you should also remove rotting stumps because they may continue to attract pests and even cause new structures (especially those made from wood) to decompose as well.

No, a structural engineer is not the same as a builder. A structural engineer is an expert in all things related to the structural integrity of a building. The structural engineer is responsible for calculating the correct materials in terms of load-bearing capacity and overall structural safety. Structural engineers do not perform the actual building of the house or other structures. Rather, the builder executes the plans and designs specified by the structural engineer.

Building codes for spiral staircases will vary by your location. Most local codes will specify minimum tread width, riser height, handrail requirements, and headroom. These standards help ensure safety and accessibility for all users. Always check local codes before you begin the installation to ensure compliance and avoid costly modifications or fines.

Structural engineers typically conduct inspections during a home sale or renovation, looking for signs of structural damage in various structures throughout the building, such as load-bearing walls, joists, beams, roofing trusses, foundations, and chimneys. Some of the warning signs that structural engineers check for include:

  • Dry rot

  • Infestation

  • Shifting or cracking foundations

  • Erosion

  • Water damage

  • Sagging, shifting, or damaged walls, ceilings, or roofing support

Absolutely, as it ensures designs are viable and won’t compromise structural integrity.
