"Davendra is an impressive individual by resume and a real pleasure to work with. He is very professional and knowledgeable, but also did very detailed and complete work which resulted in a permit without changes. He did this promptly for a reasonable price. I would certainly hire him again if I needed a structural engineer."

"Having faced a leaky roof crisis during heavy rains last year, our decision to reach out to this builder turned out to be one of the best choices we made. I wholeheartedly recommend them for their exceptional service. Faced with the challenge of addressing a complex roofing issue involving both flat and slanted structures, they demonstrated unparalleled expertise. Throughout the process, their meticulous attention to detail stood out. From coordinating with skilled roofers to connecting us with a superb cabinet maker, every step was executed with precision. What truly set them apart was their commitment to effective communication, ensuring minimal disruption to our family's routine during the project. Their dedication to not just resolving the issues but doing so with a focus on quality and customer satisfaction was evident. Even during the insurance proceedings, they navigated the complexities effortlessly, making the entire experience stress-free. This builder is more than a construction service; they are a reliable partner who delivers results with an unwavering commitment to excellence."

"Due to a large crack in my ceiling, I thought I might have a structural issue. Hogan Land Services was prompt in sending someone out to take a look at the issue. After a quick inspection of the attic and crawl space, they determined there were no structural issues. Therefore, there was no need for a structural engineer. Here we are a couple years later and doors are not lined up, the crack in the ceiling continues to get longer and wider, and more cracks in the ceiling and walls. Hogan Land Services was quick to reply to my concerns, giving more information on what could be causing the issues I'm experiencing and what route to take to alleviate the issues."

Customers say: True professional

"We had an exceptional positive experience working with them. Mike Amini, architect, suggested several changes in the main floor that really opened up the house and pointed out the beautiful view we have out the rear of the house. Matt Amini, stuctural engineer, was the Project Manager. He is very much a perfectionist and all of his suggestions were excellent giving us an expert cost vs. benefit opinion based on his experience. They started the house in December, 2009 and finished it in August, 2010. Since they had to almost completely rebuilt the house, we thought that was really fast. They worked continuously and were not always running off to other jobs. Matt responded immediately to any request we had. We also found that all of the subcontractors he hired on the job were incredible craftsmens with close attention to detail. We also worked with a designer on the job which I know can be difficult interacting with contractors, but they worked together to give us the very best end result. This is a family business where they all work cohesively together. No one is pointing fingers at each other if and when mistakes are made - a big advantage of their vertical integration. Obviously, losing our house and everything in it was quite devastating to us (we are in our 60's), but working with the Craftsmen's Guild and their vision for our house really brought us out of our emotional lows. Seeing the vision they had for the house and watching it unfold was really exciting for us! The finished house is really incredible. This would not have happened were it not for the Craftsmens Guild. We are currently landscaping the house and using Matt's cousin, Parviz Emani, from Modern Construction Design, who is also doing a fabulous job! I read one of the other reviews here that was negative and, quite frankly, we experienced NONE of the problems they seemed to have had with the Craftsmens Guild and we worked with them for about 10 months! Even now - after we have given the Craftsmen's Guild our final payment, we are still adding some additional features. We call Matt and he responds immediately to our requests!"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Most load-bearing walls are exterior, though they can also be interior.

Yes, an LVL beam is more affordable than the cost of a steel I-beam, totaling between $50 and $200 per linear foot as opposed to the $100 to $400 per linear foot you’d pay for a steel I-beam. Not only is the wood material more affordable than steel, but it’s also more similar to traditional wooden beams and doesn’t require as much retrofitting to connect joists.

The essential difference between an architect and an engineer is that architects typically focus more on the aesthetic design of buildings, although not without consideration for the structural integrity of the building. Engineers focus more on the structural, technical, and practical aspects of whether and how an architectural design can be built as drawn. You may need to hire both types of professionals if you’re designing and building a new home.

While concrete walls do not need to "breathe" in the traditional sense of the word, they do require waterproofing and dehumidifying methods, particularly in basements below the water table. Concrete both contains moisture from its initial installation and can absorb water when exposed. Ensuring proper basement ventilation , installing a vapor barrier, and controlling water exposure are all important tasks.

Precast concrete can be reinforced with rebar, wire mesh, or other materials to improve its strength and add stability. Precast concrete for large construction projects is often pre-stressed as well for greater structural strength. Reinforced concrete is durable and strong, making it an ideal choice for many construction projects.
