"We just completed a total remodel of our pantry, kitchen and master bathroom. We also had them re-do all of the siding and installed new doors and windows. They also refinished all of the hard wood floors in the house and everything is gorgeous! We reviewed 3 companies and are so happy we picked these guys!! We almost didn't because they are based out of Sacramento and we live in Scotts Valley. Mark had the fellas stay in a hotel close to here so I didn't even notice any difference! They had the knowledge to guide us to get exactly what we wanted! The workers were very friendly and a joy to work with. We are so happy with what they did we are already are in the works to have them remodel a second bathroom in our home! I highly recommend this company. Mark has an excellent skilled crew and everything went very smoothly!"

"Hired to remodel 2 bathrooms. I should have hired Arayik to do the tile in the showers and floors only. The tile work was fine but electrical, plumbing and woodworking was unacceptable. Electrical outlets that were relocated had to be reset and wall repairs had to be redone to allow texture and paint to be done. Base boards installed by Arayik had very uneven gaps above tile floor and had to be replaced."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Main water shut-off valves last 10 to 20 years on average, though they can sometimes last longer. This depends in part on the material you choose. Brass valves are very durable, but more expensive bronze or stainless steel valves may last even longer. Main water shut-off valves often fail due to aging internal parts, such as rubber washers. However, corrosion and sediment buildup also contribute to valve failure. If purchasing a home at least 10 years old, you may want to replace the main water shut-off valve soon to avoid potential problems.

Depending on the layout of your bathroom, you may be able to replace a shower valve without removing the tile. The existing hole needs to be large enough to remove your old valve and fit your new valve. If the hole is too small, you’ll need to cut into the wall and remove some of the tile.

Even if the shower drain doesn’t seem clogged or dirty, plan to clean it out about once per month—or more frequently if you or your family shed a lot of hair. It’s a good practice to remove any hair from the drain on a daily basis, as hair can accumulate fast and cause clogs in no time. You may also want to have a plumber thoroughly clean the drains in your home once every six months.

Boiling water helps unclog a drain, but usually only with a harder abrasive such as baking soda or vinegar. On its own, it isn’t the most effective tool. In addition, you shouldn’t use boiling water if you have PVC pipes, as it can soften or melt them. Use a plunger or enlist the help of a pro if you have plastic pipes.

When outside temperatures drop below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, your pipes are at risk of freezing. To prevent this, set your thermostat to no lower than 55 degrees. For added safety, especially when you are away from home, maintaining a temperature between 55 and 60 degrees will provide enough warmth to keep pipes from freezing and help you avoid expensive water damage from burst pipes.
