"The plumber was prompt, professional, and completed the issue with my toilet in about 30 minutes. The downside was it was an expensive repair due to the $300 service call fee for such a quick fix. The plus was that the Plumber took off $25 as a first time customer ($275 instead of $300), but with the tank parts the total fee was $325."

"Chris removed the toilet and cleanned up a lot of silicon. He said the wax seal was good but the toiltet was loose because the flange and drain pipe needed to be secured from below because they pulled toilet up when screws were tightened. He reset the toilet, told me not to use it, and cost was $250. I contacted my condo's HOA. Their plumber said it was the seal. I called Phill and explained the situation. He came immediately and agreed that the seal was good but came up with an easier way to brace the toilet without going through the downstairs unit. Chris came back and finished the repairs following Phill'sinstructions. Cost to me: another $250. The service was prompt and professional. Phil resonded right away and explained the fix very clearly. My complaint is that had I been given all the options the first visit, work could have been completed then without doubling the cost. I did call Phill and asked him to discount the second visit. He responded that he would review the invoices which he did not have yet. my charge bill shows two $250 charges for a total of $500. I was notlooking for a free ride for the second visit. Any discount would have shown good will regarding the unnecessary second visit. My low ratings are based on the fact that I had to pay for a second visit when work could have been completed in one."

"My plumbing emergency happened late on the eve of Thanksgiving. I had already called several "emergency" plumbing companies and none of them could provide service. When I called Zoom I ended up talking directly to Ian who was so upbeat he immediately made me feel less panicked. He assured me that he would come to my house once he finished his current job and he wasn't the least bit fazed that he would be arriving after midnight to make my house livable again. When he arrived he took a some time to assess the situation...he looked at all toilets and shower/tub areas and then got right to work. He took care of immediate needs and made recommendations to prevent a repeat situation. He was willing to do a few extra tasks while here that addressed his concerns for the future and he was pleasant and informative the entire time."

"Hired Drain Town Rooter to clear a root growing in a toilet floor drain that was preventing adequate use of the toilet. The toilet had to be removed from the floor to remove the root after which the toilet was reinstalled. All work and communications were done with complete professionalism and on time. Yes, I would recommend using this company and will contact them if/when needed again for plumbing needs."

"Wow, so professional, courteous, and helpful! Not only was Ricky a skilled worker, but he was also just an overall easy guy to work with and talk to. Sometimes it's awkward having strangers come into your home for hours at a time to work, but it was not awkward at all. He gave great advice on what to do and what NOT to do, and our toilets are working beautifully. Since we are new homeowners he also walked us through the ins and outs of our main water valve and water heater. I will definitely hire Do It Right Plumbers again!"

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Some of the most common bathroom leaks include showers, sinks, and toilets. Most homeowners discover these leaks because of the chronic dripping sound faucets and showers make as water drips to the ground, but a leaky toilet will often appear as a puddle. Inspect your bathroom faucets, showers, and toilets every month to detect leaks quickly.

The toilet flange anchors to the subfloor, usually with wood screws or cement screws, but most of it should sit above floor level at full height. When a flange is flush with the subfloor or below it, it can lead to the creation of leak paths.

Many parts of your plumbing system can fail, but clogged drains are one of the biggest plumbing problems you’ll likely encounter. From your kitchen sink, bathroom sink, or bathtub, there are plenty of opportunities for gunk, hair, food scraps, and more to get stuck in drains. When this happens, water will slowly drain, leading to standing water, bad odors, drain flies, and other issues.

Many homeowners can handle a minor clog themselves, but if you have a clog in your main line, you’re best off hiring a local plumber to get the drain back to its normal flow rate.

Yes, you should screw your flange to the subfloor, including cement. The best way to get this done is to predrill holes into the concrete using a hammer drill and a ¼-inch concrete bit. Be careful when you’re ready to bolt your flange down, as you can accidentally crack it. You can avoid this issue by not installing the screws too deep. Or, you can opt for a flange with a stainless steel ring so you don’t have to worry about cracking the plastic.

Recaulk your toilet at least every five years. If you feel like your toilet is getting wobbly before that, it still might be time for a new caulking. Never directly place new caulk over existing caulk because that doesn’t produce lasting results. Also, caulking over existing moldy caulk does not kill out the mold by suffocating it, so if you have mold, be sure to get rid of it before recaulking.
