"I had a plumbing problem with a complicated Japanese toilet. I had no idea who to call for service. The very polite gentleman they sent out admitted that he seldom saw this particular problem, but would find the answer for me. He did! He scheduled the specialist plumber and followed up with him for me. All without charge. I will work with this company in the future."

"Excellent service. Ray called ahead of appointment to confirm model requirements. He found that a leak was starting. I trust his judgment. I have used Vista plumbing for 20 years for toilet replacement to water heaters and I am always satisfied."

"THEY WERE ABLE TO COME ON THE SAME DAY I CALLED. THEY WERE VERY PUNCTUAL. HOWEVER THEIR PRICES WERE EXTREMELY HIGH, AND HE TRIED TO TALK ME INTO A MUCH HIGHER SERVICE THAN I ACTUALLY NEEDED. TWO DAYS LATER THE SAME TOILET WAS LEAKING AGAIN. I CALLED A LOCAL PLUMBER THAT ENDED UP BEING MUCH CHEAPER AND THE JOB WAS DONE CORRECTLY. THE TOILET HAS NOT LEAKED SINCE."

"I called Top Notch plumbing in the afternoon and the following morning at 8:00AM, they were at my door and ready to work. My immediate reaction was their friendly introduction and then an explanation of what work would be required to correct our plumbing problems. I was very aware of exactly what was required to fix the toilets. There were no surprises. The overall approach by Top Notch was very professional, nice "chit-chat" during the work and a bill that matched exactly the work completed. I regard Top Notch as a highly dependable plumbing service, fairly priced, knowledgeable trouble shooting and would be welcome in my home anytime. At age 71, I have met many plumbers over the years and I would regard Top Notch as an A+ company."

"It went very well. My husband and I made the mistake of providing the wrong faucets to him for the wrong bathroom. However, he took it with a grain of salt and willingly said that it was no problem and he would install the right faucets which he did. It did cost us more money but it was worth it. He did an excellent job of installing the faucets and left the bathrooms in a clean and orderly condition. He was very pleasant and cordial during his time here. I would highly recommend him to anyone and we would definitely call him for future plumbing issues.

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Yes, pressure-assist toilets leak, but less often than regular toilets. You might experience leaks from your toilet due to worn-out parts, water pressure in your plumbing that’s too high or low, poor installation, or cracks in your tank. These toilets are harder to fix on your own than gravity-fed ones, so it’s best to call a plumber if you can’t figure out what’s wrong,

Yes, you can install a basement bathroom without breaking concrete by using an upflush toilet system, which includes a macerator pump. These systems sit on top of the concrete floor, so you don't have to drill into it to install plumbing. The macerator pump breaks up waste until it is soft enough to pass through a discharge pipe to the main sewage line. This method saves you time and money by bypassing the need to break concrete to connect drain pipes.

No, you can’t convert a gravity-flush toilet to a pressure-assist toilet. Pressure-assist toilets include a tank-within-the-tank, and a standard gravity-flush toilet doesn’t have a capability to include the additional tank. If you want the benefits of a pressure-assist toilet, you’ll have to make the investment in a new one.

The lifespan of a toilet can vary significantly. While the porcelain body itself can last up to 50 years or more with proper care, most plumbers suggest an average functional lifespan of 10 to 25 years, and many homeowners replace their toilets after about 20 years.

A toilet's longevity is influenced by factors like maintenance quality, hard water buildup, and damage to the finish. It's also important to note that internal components have much shorter lifespans than the bowl; for example, flappers may last only a few years, while fill valves can last around 10 years.

Even if an older toilet is still functional, consider upgrading to a high-efficiency model to save on water costs.

On average, it costs between $150 and $300 to fix a toilet that’s leaking at the base, including supply charges. If the flange is intact, the cost is between $150 to $200. If the flange needs to be replaced, you can expect an extra $50 or so. The actual price will depend on the hourly rate your plumber charges.
