"I have used AC Dave for the past 5 years. I am a single older woman who is on a school teacher's salary. Dave always took the time to explain about any problems he saw with my HVAC system. He always explained any choices I may have with the actual HVAC unit and he always charged a reasonable and fair price. Never once did I feel that he was "gouging" me or taking advantage of my "ignorance" in order to get a few extra dollars. He and his workers are prompt and dependable. They clean up after they are done. He has always been very friendly and personable. I have just sold my home in California and moved to Georgia and am writing this to recommend his service. Cherish and Laurie are kind and helpful and I am thankful that I found AC Dave Heating and Air as they truly exemplify values of service and reliability so lacking in today's world. Great company. Great people."

"Worked with Tim - was looking for new HVAC system. He was honest and provided the best price for what you got (literally thousands of dollars cheaper from other options I was finding). Was very communicative and easy to work with. He made sure to educate you on the ins-and-outs of HVAC systems, and did not try to upsell you like other companies might do. He and Efficiency Air definitely got me as a new continued client."

"Quality Comfort replaced our old hvac system with a new 4 ton heat pump and all new duck work. They were very accommodating with some of my requests like moving the system back for free space. Albert and his team are amazing workers. I will hire them again and I am very happy with there work."

"Season Control was an excellent contractor for replacement of my ancient home HVAC unit and air ducts. Their representative, Tomer, was open, honest, accessible and responsive from opening bid through project completion. The installation crew was clean, courteous and glad to answer any questions during the project. I would not hesitate to recommend Season Control for any HVAC project, big or small. Great experience!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Window AC units use a fair amount of electricity, but significantly less than central AC systems. Because they are more energy-efficient for cooling individual rooms or small spaces, their usage is comparatively low. On average, a window AC unit consumes between 500 and 1,400 watts, while a central AC system uses over 3,500 watts—meaning a window unit uses about one-third of the energy. This typically translates to a monthly running cost of $15 to $40, although this can vary depending on external factors.

A 3-ton AC unit is probably too big for a home that’s 1,200 square feet. If you have a 1,200-square-foot home, you likely need a unit that’s somewhere around 1.9 and 2 tons. An AC unit that’s too large will be really inefficient and cost you a lot of extra money on your bills.

A power outage can damage your air conditioner, just like a power surge can damage any electrical device or appliance. In most cases, your circuit breaker or built-in surge protection on your AC unit protects your AC and just needs a reset. But in other cases, it might be that your AC compressor or capacitor was blown during the power surge. You’ll need to have an HVAC professional repair or replace any AC parts.

When an evaporator coil becomes faulty, it can result in various problems within your HVAC system. These problems could include reduced cooling or heating capabilities due to ice formation and obstructed airflow, along with increased energy consumption and higher bills. Additionally, a damaged coil may lead to refrigerant leaks, which are environmentally harmful and decrease overall system efficiency.

Ultimately, if not addressed right away, a bad evaporator coil can even lead to a complete failure of your HVAC system. That’s why timely repair or replacement is crucial to maintaining your family’s comfort and your HVAC’s efficiency.

Winterizing can still help you save money on energy costs and help prepare your AC for its work next year when you turn it back on. We suggest planning for at least some maintenance, even if winters are mild in your area.
