"This review is about Air Duct Professionals and I want you to know that I finally found a company that was honest and professional. Because when I was at the end of my wits trying to figure out who was telling me the truth, I called Ed Mack the owner and he was reassuring that my home was not that old to be having all these problems. He referred me to a website for the Air Duct Cleaners Association and read about what air duct cleaning really does. So I had Air Duct Professionals come out to the inspection and they have an actual HVAC guy on their staff. Immediately looking at how new and well maintained our air system was in the attic, he told us those other companies were trying to scam us. Air Duct Professionals did a great job cleaning out all of our air ducts and dryer vent and cleaning up after themselves. I whole-heartedly recommend this company for their professional work and honesty."

"I am so incredibly elated with the quality of the work done. I love my house a 100 times more now. Albert and the gentleman that he worked with were both extremely hard workers. My attic gets unreasonably hot. I think it was 160 degrees that day. They both came promptly, and pretty much worked all day to replace the decades old ducts in the attic. They also replaced all of my vents and installed the IWave air purifier on my furnace. Keep in mind that I spent an entire week looking at videos and reading articles to see exactly how my HVAC system works. I also got around 6 different inspections and quotes. I still am in disbelief how valuable this service was for the price that I was quoted. They stood out among 6 different companies. This is the best decision I have made for myself in a while and I'm actually pretty proud that I decided to go with Albert at Quality Comfort Heating & AC. I could not be happier with this service. The gentlemen were incredibly personable and I this deal was so valuable it definitely felt like a steal. I will definitely be hiring their services again in the future for all HVAC-related work. I have a pretty old furnace and outdoor AC unit that will need regular maintenance. Also, because they're so old I'll have this company replace them with new ones. I'm sure if you're reading this review, your priorities and concerns are quality of the work along with the honesty and skills of the company you work with. Although all HVAC companies that came from an inspection were honest, I trusted Albert and the gent that came with him. Make a wise decision and definitely consider having this company come out and take a look at your HVAC system."

"My HVAC unit stopped producing heat so I called the folks at around the clock. They offered to come out the same day and after taking a look up on our roof determined it was a faulty control board. We talked a little about the lifespan of the unit and that while it was probably going to need to be replaced in the next 5 years or so, it made more sense to simply replace the board today. So he scheduled an appointment for the following day to come back with the replacement board. 1 day later and 15 minutes of work and I have heat again."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The decision to put your AC unit on the roof or ground depends on the climate in your area, the roof shape, accessibility, and budget. If you live in a warm climate or don’t have existing ductwork, it’s likely best to stick to a traditional AC unit that sits on the ground. However, if you lack yard space, live in a mild climate, and have easy access to the roof, your home may benefit from a rooftop AC unit.

Air filters with a high MERV rating, 11 or above, shouldn't cause airflow problems in most residential systems. However, the airflow can be restricted in some HVAC systems if they aren't designed for high MERV ratings. If in doubt, a local duct installer should inspect your ductwork so that you know what your system can handle.

To reset your air conditioner, start by turning it off at the thermostat. Then, shut off power to the AC system at the circuit breaker. Some units have a dedicated "reset" button; if yours does, press and hold it for three to five seconds. If your air conditioner doesn't have a reset button, or if you are resetting it after a power outage, leave the circuit breaker off for at least 30 minutes to allow the system to reset itself. Afterward, turn the power back on at the breaker, turn on the AC from the thermostat, and set it to "cool" to test the system.

To keep your air conditioner in good working condition, you should have it serviced by a professional at least once per year, ideally in the spring before the cooling season begins. If your AC unit is 10 years or older, consider servicing it twice a year (once in the spring and once in the fall) to catch potential problems early and help it reach its full lifespan. During a service visit, a technician will inspect, clean, and replace parts as needed. Regular maintenance helps avoid costly repairs. As a DIY task, you can also clean the evaporator coils annually.

While an air conditioner can temporarily run with a dirty filter, it is not recommended as it will not work efficiently. A dirty filter forces the system to work harder to circulate cool air, leading to reduced airflow, increased wear and tear, and higher energy bills. This added strain can cause the air conditioner to overheat or fail prematurely. Furthermore, a clogged filter may allow dust and dirt to accumulate in your ductwork, negatively impacting air quality. It is more cost-effective to clean or replace filters regularly than to pay higher utility bills and risk needing to replace the entire AC unit.
