"The Roof Coating Specialists, Inc. was very good to work with; they were helpful, polite, and knowledgeable. They checked the roof for maintenance needs, then provided what I believe was a very fair estimate for the preliminary work plus the roof coating. They answered all my questions. They were prompt, efficient workers, and I would definitely use their roofing services again."

"We hired Red Sky to install a new shingle roof on our house. We interviewed a couple of businesses but Red Sky not only gave use a good price, but the owner, John Camp, seemed like a honest guy. On the scheduled start day, the crew showed up on time and promptly started working. The crew worked for two days. The first day they worked 10 hours, the second day they worked 12 hours. They were efficient and knew what they were doing. They had to bring in a large crane to take the swamp cooler off our roof and then place it back. It all went smoothly. Communication with John and his son Colin was excellent. We were kept informed of what was going on and what to expect next. Roofing crews can sometimes be messy, but this crew was pretty tidy. Only little bits of this and that littered the ground but all of it was picked up. They finished the job on time (with an unexpected rain delay) and they charged us what they said they said they would. Excellent work!"

"After interviewing 5 residential roofers, I chose W & D Roofing & Contracting. It is a small, established Tucson family business who are licensed, bonded, insured, experienced, professional. Their roofing team is too. This was for replacing a 30+ year old flat roof. They tore off my old rotted roof, replaced the plywood base, increased the size of the scuppers to take rain off the roof quickly, gave it a slight pitch, added upper heat pump level drainage. They cleaned up and left my yard in pristine condition. My flat roof had been leaking before I moved into my house in 2019. This is my first house, so I was inexperienced in this whole process. And, they were the cheapest bid. No one had been able to fix it by patching, or sealing it. I had a tight timeline in mind of 2-1/2 weeks, and they fit me into their schedule. And, just in time. I have already had 5 rains on my new roof, and it is holding tight. No leaks/no worries. I highly recommend W & D!"

"After a recent storm caused damage to our homes flat roof, we reached out to Southwest Roofing and Design for help. From start to finish they were prompt, professional and incredibly thorough. Their team quickly assessed the storm damage and clearly explained the repair process. They took care of everything, patching up the damaged areas and applying a protective roof coating to help extend the life of the roof and guard against future issues. Thanks to their quality workmanship, our roof is now solid and sealed and we feel fully prepared for the upcoming monsoon season. It's a huge relief knowing our home is protected. "Excellent. David and his crew, Nick and Lorenzo, were extremely professional, courteous, and prompt. David explained to me each detail of the repairs. They always cleaned up before leaving. I would definitely hire them again. If you are looking for roof repairs, recoating, or replacement, I highly recommend you contact the professionals at West Coast Roofing. The physical work went very well. West Coast Roofing announces on their website a 10% discount for new customers. This is allegedly included in the estimate but only as a kind of footnote at the very end of the estimate. The customer does not see exactly how the discount in included in the calculation of the estimate. Be aware."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

The best way to prevent wind damage to your roof, especially if you live in an area prone to hurricanes, tropical storms, or tornadoes, is to invest in a roofing product with high wind resistance. Look for the ASTM D3161 and ASTM D7158 ratings to see the specific wind speeds your roofing product can withstand. Impact-resistant shingles have the highest wind resistance ratings and will give you the best chance of avoiding wind damage.

Using an ice and water shield underlayment under a metal roof is a good way to protect the roof and your home from damage in colder climates that see a lot of winter weather. Traditional underlayment isn’t effective underneath a metal roof, though, so be sure to install one specifically made for metal roofs to get the best protection.

Underlayment is used between existing shingles and a new metal roof to prevent friction and wear from the shingle granules on the underside of the metal. The underlayment also helps prevent water intrusion and allows expansion and contraction without wearing away at the roofing material.

The purchase price of 3-tab shingles is less than that of other material varieties, such as architectural shingles. However, 3-tab shingles generally last far fewer years than even the least expensive architectural ones. Other roofing types, such as metal or clay, also cost more than 3-tab shingles. However, if you plan to stay in your home for many years, the long-term cost of any of these options can compete with 3-tabs because of their longevity.

You cannot replace granules that have been lost off shingles. The granule embedding process is part of shingle manufacturing, and once the bond holding the granules to the shingles has been lost, the granules are gone for good. Shingles with granule loss must be fully replaced to continue offering adequate protection.
