"Aside from a late arrival, I'm happy with the job done. I definitely appreciated the walkthrough I had before the job was completed, which gave me a chance to ask for a bit more to be trimmed back from nearby roofs. The service was more expensive than other quotes but I went with Tree Logic since they have arborists, for which I trust their judgement more than other providers."

"These gentlemen took down a mammoth of a tree for us. Many other companies said “it’s too large or too difficult”. Not these guys. They also cleaned up perfectly. Couldn’t ask for a better group of people to work with. Thank you AZ Yard Drs."

"A high branch on one of our mesquite trees split due to the wind. I called Wholesale Tree Trimming and Removal owner Scott Harmon and he stopped by promptly to give us an estimated price, which included his Angie's List coupon offer. The estimate was right-on because of the work involved. Within two days, Scott and his tree crew were at our home to cut and trim our mesquite trees and our palo verde trees. Scott and his crew were professional, on-time, and personable throughout the job. They cheerfully and patiently answered all our questions. My husband and I are extremely pleased with the service that Scott and his team provided and we plan to use Wholesale Tree Trimming and Removal again as well as recommend the company. Great job, guys!

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Finding a reliable arborist starts with researching specialists in your area and checking their licensing and certifications. Use online resources like the Better Business Bureau (BBB) to conduct research on each company. Next, contact the arborist and ask the following questions to see whether they are the right fit for your project:

  • Do you handle or specialize in dealing with the issue I’m having?

  • Are you fully insured?

  • Do you have customer references I can call?

  • Do you have any third-party certifications?

  • What equipment and strategies do you plan to use?

Generally, if your neighbor’s tree hangs over your yard, you can legally trim overhanging branches. Keep in mind that you cannot cross your property line to cut the trees, and if you damage the tree by trimming it, your neighbor could sue you. Depending on the type of tree and value, this could mean dishing out two to three times the value of the tree.

It’s worth noting that the specifics of this type of tree maintenance and the guidelines around it may vary by location. Do your research and, most importantly, consult with your neighbor.

You should not trim an oak tree in the summer. Oak trees are especially susceptible to disease, and open tree wounds are an invitation for beetles that carry tree-killing fungus. If there’s no risk that the oak tree will do damage to your property or hurt someone, it’s best to save the trimming for fall or winter. If you can, seal the wound with latex to prevent fungus from getting inside.

The costs vary from $250 to $5,000 per tree, depending on the size, complexity of the trimming, and labor.

No. Topping a tree refers to severely cutting down all its major branches and tree in a straight line. It was once recommended for streetside deciduous trees but has fallen out of practice. Topping leads to many problems, removing so much of the tree that many trees struggle to survive and become much more vulnerable to insects and diseases. Also, it doesn’t really help tree growth as once assumed and often leads to an ugly appearance of many sprouting stems in competition to become new main branches.
