"Dependable Painting was wonderful. John came out and walked around the house. He explained what work would be performed and the amount of time it would take. His price was very competitive and reasonable. He had time available during the next week so he was able to pressure wash the house, prep and paint in two days. He was very professional, cleaned up after himself daily. When he was done, we walked around the house and inspected the job. He touched where needed. It was a very pleasant experience. I would definitely recommend Dependable Painting and I would hire him again if I needed another house painted."

"I used Envision Painting to paint the interior of my block wall. They did a fabulous job. I have quite a few plants that are right against the wall, they took extra care to cover them and removed the covers immediately after painting so the plants didn't burn. They came back a few days later to make sure there weren't any spots that were missed, and touched up where needed. The crew was great. On time, professional and very polite. I would highly recommend them for any painting needs."

"John & crew did the entire exterior of my home in a day and a half. They fixed parts of the foundation and wood, prepped and covered everything very well before painting. John was great to come by and paint samples beforehand. Used quality paint and did quality work!"

"They were fabulous! Our house looks amazing! They followed our HOA guidelines and were on time every day.  We had them paint our block wall fence which had some water stains. They treated the water stains before painting and the fence looks beautiful. They are very professional and their clean-up was great.  I would highly recommend this wonderful family owned business!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

It is not always necessary to remove old stain before restaining a deck. If the previous stain is in good condition and is compatible with the new stain, you may be able to apply a new coat after thorough cleaning. However, if the old stain is in bad condition, flaking, or peeling, it is best to remove it completely to ensure an even surface and proper adhesion for the new coat. Staining over a damaged layer can lead to an uneven finish and poor penetration. For best results, test a small area first and consult the stain manufacturer's guidelines.

DIY staining or painting is manageable with proper preparation, including safety measures, necessary tools, and adherence to safe weather conditions for application.

You’ll need to restrain your deck when you notice fading, cracking, peeling, or mold and mildew over a moderate to large area, or when it’s become especially difficult to clean. As for how often to stain a deck, plan to do it every two to three years or whenever you start to notice extended damage.

You can use latex or acrylic paint outdoors. Although acrylic paint tends to last longer outside, it also costs more, so if you’re painting the outside of your house, for instance, latex paint is often a go-to option. However, acrylic will be your best choice if you want to spend some extra money for added durability.

Staining a deck with a rag is typically a better option than using a brush, as it helps the stain penetrate deeper into the wood. However, both brushes and rags are best reserved for detailed work because using these tools on an entire deck can require tediously crawling around on your hands and knees. A pad applicator, sprayer, or roller are preferred alternatives to applying stain over the majority of a deck. Use a rag for railings and other detailed work, and let the wood soak up as much of the stain as possible before wiping away drips or pools.
