"I had a wood-burning fireplace repaired. Dal came out the first day and cleaned the fireplace flue and did a great job explaining the issues I had. A few days later after the weather had cleared, David and Miguel worked hard also repairing the exterior bricks that had mold growing and fixed another top part of the chimney where the concrete was breaking apart. Thanks for getting this fireplace fixed!"

"Roger was on time, very polite and very competent. He examined everything very thoroughly and replaced my damper system so that it is easy to use and closes off the incoming air completely when I choose. I also had a stainless steel piece placed in the back of the fireplace which reflects the heat into the rom when I make a fire. I now can have a fire whenever I want and no smoke and no drafts when the damper is closed. I love it."

"The company had given us an hour time frame for their arrival and they were well within that time frame. He called me within the time frame and let us know where he was and exactly what time he'd arrive and he was on time. He covered the fireplace area with a cloth and cleaned the stove pipe and stove with a powerful vacuum. We could see the dust and particles being sucked down into the vaccum. It turned out very clean. He was always a professional and very personable. We would use this company again."

"Once I had bought the deal on Angie's List, I received instructions via email to call Frontpoint directly to set it up. I called and spoke to Oscar, and the process was very smooth.  The email contained some order codes that let Oscar know exactly what I had purchased, and setup was quick from there.  He ran a credit check to confirm eligibility (it's a 3-yr contract), then had me set my intial PIN, Safety words, address, and credit card for billing.  That was it.
It took 2 days to assemble my hardware package, and 2 more days for it to arrive.  The sensors, control panel, and manuals came assembled in a really nice flip-top display box.  Everything was numbered in order, like "do this first," etc.  The sensors were all numbered for easy reference.  All batteries were included.   It was really slick.
Setup of the hardware took about a half-hour; I was easily able to do it myself.  The sensors are peel-and-stick; deciding which doors and windows to target took longer than the actual installation.  The fire/smoke alarm is peel-and-stick.  The motion sensor is sitting right on our fireplace mantel.  I hung the control panel using included screws.  Everything is wireless; once the system was turned on, all the sensors were automatically detected.  Did I mention how slick it is?
I called Frontpoint at 10pm, just as they were clothing, and the assiciate was nonetheless very polite.  Activation took minutes.  He walked me through different methods of arming and disarming, and could see my system was responding correctly.  He gave me a 2hr delay in police activation so I could get used to the system without accidentally tripping it.  He even gave me the rest of the month (~5 days) free, and said billing would start at the first of the next month!  I checked my bill, and it's legit.  Again, very slick.
Once it was up and running, I got an email to set up my online account.  The website, contracted through alarm.com, is really nice. You can custom-name your sensors, set up email/text alerts, create additional users/PINs ... really nice.  I downloaded the App for Android, and it's also very nice.  You can arm/disarm and see the recent sensor history.  This, combined with the wireless setup, is WAY MORE than any of my friends have through ADT, Broadview, etc.  My system is the belle of the ball, at lower cost ($99 equipment, no setup fee, $42/mo, killer web functionality, DIY expansion).
So far, the first month has been great.  We left town for a week right after installing it, and gave someone one of the keyfobs so they could check on the house, and their own User PIN for emergencies (which we can deactivate any time).  They had no problems, and the alerts let us know exactly when they came and went (the keyfobs are labeled in the alerts).   The piece of mind is PRICELESS.  I'm glad we set this up before an incident, instead of after.
I hear that additional Z-wave sensors are very easy to add, and available through third parties as well as Frontpoint.  Additional window sensors, water leak sensors, pipe freeze sensors, you name it.  Even home-automation sensors, which can be controlled via the web and phone apps!  I look forward to getting some and trying them out.
Great job (so far) Frontpoint!

"Mike and his son did an excellent job. Cleaning a tile roof is dangerous, particularly one that is covered with moss. He gave us a reasonable bid in writing before the job, and stayed within the original bid. Not only did he thoroughly remove the moss, but he cleaned our gutters and side storage unit. They completely cleaned-up all of the debris from the pressure washing, including the deck and windows.
But they didn't stop there; they removed limbs hanging over our chimney, removing the possibility of fire. There was no extra charge, which speaks volumes to their professionalism and commitment to doing a thorough job.
Please use Champion Cleaning, you won't be disappointed."

Fireplace Cleaners questions, answered by experts

A hearth often looks like a tile or brick floor that juts out from and surrounds your fireplace. A hearth can be made of stone, brick, ceramic, or any other fireproof material. Brick offers a classic and traditional vibe, whereas a hearth made of marble or ceramic may lean more toward modern aesthetics. The most common depth of a hearth is 20 inches.

When it comes to painting your bricks, you’ve got a few options. Traditionally, lime wash (a mix of aged, burned, and crushed lime and water) was used to whitewash brick or stone. You can also find premixed brick whitewash paint that cuts out a few steps and lets you get started faster. However, for the best results, we recommend using a DIY whitewash (white acrylic paint mixed with water).

You should use an angled brush to first paint the mortar lines, then go in with a high-density roller to evenly paint the bricks one at a time. You can also use a flat paintbrush to paint individual bricks, but a roller is faster and easier to use thanks to its longer handle and wider surface area for coating the bricks. To finish, go in with the paint brush for edges or hard-to-reach areas.

Yes, it is essential to prime or seal a brick fireplace before painting. Brick is a porous and highly absorbent material, so without a primer, paint can seep into the surface, resulting in uneven coverage and allowing the natural brick color to show through. To avoid this, apply one or two coats of a masonry primer. The primer will seal the brick and provide a smooth, uniform layer for the paint to adhere to. Ensure the primer is completely dry before applying the topcoat of paint.

The best color to paint a brick fireplace comes down to personal taste. However, neutral colors—like white or gray—will open the space and create a bright modern look, making them popular options. However, choosing a bold color can turn your fireplace into a feature piece that will be the talk of all family gatherings.
