"Goss Flooring did a wonderful job on refinishing my existing floors and added new hardwood flooring in my living room and dining room. Jim Goss was professional and communicated with me frequently with updates during the long time it took for the wood to arrive (supply chain challenges). The floors came out gorgeous and on-budget. Jim is easy to work with and his company deserves a 5 star review!"

"I cannot recommend Jose and his crew enough! Our floors are GORGEOUS and perfect. We had a complex job where we needed several different types of existing floor removed (including concrete!) and we needed new floors tied into existing floors. We also needed new stair railing installed with wood to match the floors. Jose and his crew worked tirelessly and completed the job ahead of schedule (when was the last time you could say that about a construction project, right?). The new floors tie in seamlessly with the existing wood floor we kept. The whole crew is very professional and trustworthy. We are over-the-moon with our floors -- they look even better than we could have imagined!"

"My "new-old" floors are better than I ever could have imagined. George and his crew were on time, on budget, on target and created such beauty in my home that I don't want to move my furniture back in. I needed several patches, and all look seamless with the original floor. He brought new life to my 1936 fir, and created a continuous flow with the 2004 oak. He even came after hours to do a last-minute patch I needed. He is conscientious, respectful and gracious. His employees are the same. I would never go to any other floor team. Ever."

"Apex is a 2-person business. Michael and John form a great team, both passionate about making your floor look great, and are artisans. They only do hardwood floors. This has merits. They focus on doing one thing, great. And since it is their reputation at stake, they put their best into each project. You will see them work 6 days a week until your job is done well. Michael works on getting new business at a very reasonable price. He procures raw material+tools for a job and helps John. John is a perfectionist who delivers (oxymoron). He has a great work ethic and will not waste any time. Michael and John installed new hardwood floor in the main floor of our house. They leveled the sunken floor in one of our rooms with the rest, removed a sloppily installed slate floor (by prior owner), laced the new floor with existing hardwood floor. We so love our new floor that we feel like licking it :). I plan to hire Apex again in the future to install hardwood flooring in our upstairs. I highly recommend Apex. What more do you need than the best people in the trade working on your floor and making it look great, at a very competitive price?"

"Eric Kragerud and his PacWest team did an exceptional job on the flooring in our home. They added and replaced all of the hardwood flooring on the main floor, replaced the treads on our main staircase with hardwoods, and re-carpeted the upstairs of our home as well. Eric also coordinated the installation of new quartz countertops and accent stone in our kitchen, all of which turned out beautifully. Everything was completed using highest quality materials, excellent craftsmanship, and best of all on-time. Highly recommend."

"SIMPLY OUTSTANDING! I was fortunate to hire Olympus Flooring for both a laminate flooring and carpeting for a major condominium remodel. The work that was done on both project was INCREDIBLE. Both projects were done in less than one day (each), and extremely professional. They were extremely flexible with scheduling and a pleasure to work with. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY! Will send project pictures if desired. JEP [email protected]"

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

After carpet removal, prepare for new flooring by assessing the subfloor. You will want to address any imperfections to create a smooth and level base for installation. Remember, proper subfloor preparation is crucial for optimal new flooring results. Consider repairing and replacing damaged areas for a stable foundation. For both wood and concrete subfloors, consider sanding to remove any debris or adhesives remaining thoroughly.

Steam mops can be a better option than traditional mops because the steam can lift stubborn dirt from floors without using chemicals, and it also kills bacteria and dust mites. However, steam mops have drawbacks: they are more expensive, require an electrical outlet, and are not suitable for all flooring types, such as laminate or hardwood, which can be damaged by the steam.

Regular mopping can also sanitize floors effectively when done with the right cleaning products and techniques, though it may require more effort. The main advantage of a traditional mop is its versatility, as it can be used on any type of flooring. Ultimately, the best choice depends on your floor type, budget, and cleaning preferences.

In most cases, laminate flooring is better for people with dust or other allergies as laminate is easier to clean. Carpet can trap pollen and other allergens, allowing them to be kicked up into the air again with foot traffic. Consult your flooring specialist about the best types of carpet or laminate flooring to use based on your household member’s needs.

The flooring that is the least toxic is solid wood. Natural linoleum, tile, stone, bamboo, and cork flooring also make the list of least-toxic flooring types. These flooring materials are safer and healthier for your home because they are natural materials that aren’t manufactured with chemicals, unlike laminate flooring. While some laminate flooring brands are made with less formaldehyde, many contain high levels of toxic chemicals that can off-gas in your home for months and years after installation.

Choosing natural flooring materials that are easy to clean without chemical cleansers can also help keep your home safer.

It’s possible to reuse household materials to cover floors, but they won’t provide the same level of protection as dedicated materials. They’re also more difficult to tape down and more prone to slipping and bunching up—and any dirt or debris on them could scratch or stain your floors. That being said, extra materials like these can be useful for protecting the sides of furniture and placing in areas that could use added protection.
