"Unfortunately, there seemed to be a miscommunication and/or language barrier in this instance. I came to give an estimate regarding her crown molding. She had some existing to hide drywall cracks and wanted to do the same in four areas. I let her know that I wouldn't be able to match the exact type of trim perfectly where they met and she seemed confused as to why. I tried to explain that different mill work milled at different times could be slightly different, so much so that you can only tell when they are put next to each other. She also was confused on the different sizes. She had 3 1/4" crown existing. She purchased two pieces of 3 5/8" for her bathroom and I tried to show her the difference but it didn't seem to make sense to her. I sent her an estimate for 3 1/4" crown in the new areas and to install the 3 5/8" she purchased in the other. She signed the proposal and I purchased said materials. I showed up to install and after about 2 hours, she noticed the size of materials and questioned me regarding the size. I told her that 3 1/4" was agreed upon in the signed contract. She told me she didn't understand. I had samples of other sizes with me and she picked 4 1/4" crown. I immediately told her the cost of materials would be more if that's what she wanted. Not having purchased 4 1/4" for a couple years, I told her I thought it was around 50-60 cents more per foot. It turned out to be $1.12 more per foot. I normally charge more for larger material as it is harder to work with but didn't include that cost or the 2 extra hours it cost me running around to get the different material. I bought the first material wholesale and they don't return small orders, so I ate that cost as well. When sending her the final bill, my auto fill on QuickBooks entered $175 instead of $75, the difference in the material cost. I admitted the error of not noticing and corrected it immediately. During the job she was constantly watching over my shoulder, as well as her sons that did "quality control". She insisted I finish the job in two days and was constantly asking me when I will be done or how long each room would take. I was very rushed and felt scrutinized at each step of the job which made me nervous. I wiped down every inch of wall and ceiling I touched and vacuumed at the end with a triple Hepa filter vacuum. I am not quite sure what I could have done to make this job go smoother. I think she didn't understand or read the contract. I tirelessly explained the sizes and procedure but don't think anything could have been said any more concise. I hope this comment and rating doesn't sway other customers... please read my other reviews."
