The company's main focus is on carpet and upholstery cleaning, but they also do re-installation. The estimate, which included quality padding, and cleaning after installation, was reasonable and we were impressed with Rob's professionalism. That's understandable in retrospect, as he has been with the company since 1991 and holds a “Master Textile Cleaner” Certification, according to the company's website. He arrived on time for the installation, completed the re-installation efficiently, and left the carpet looking cleaner than it ever had. We were very pleased. It’s not necessarily normal for tiles to lift, although it’s one of the common issues people may have with their tile flooring. Tiles correctly installed by pros with expansion joints should not lift over time. However, if the installation was done poorly, you might see tiles tenting or lifting as the house settles. This is more common in high-moisture areas with extreme temperatures.
Thinset mortar is the best adhesive for ceramic tiles on concrete. It is easy to work with and has a slower dry time than mastic or epoxy mortars. This longer dry time gives the installer more time to adjust tiles, which is especially useful for DIYers who may not have tile installation experience. It can also be built up to help level any depressions or gaps in the concrete subfloor.
A cement backer board is not needed for laying tile on concrete. Sometimes referred to as a cementitious backer unit, or CBU, backer board should be used if the subfloor is plywood or OSB. The backer board provides a base on which to install the tiles that isn’t as likely to be damaged by any accidental water seepage as natural materials would be.

Tile shouldn’t be set tight against the tub. Bathtubs can expand when filled, and they can shift slightly with the weight of occupants. For this reason, it’s important to leave a slight gap between the bathtub and the first row of tile. Aim for a narrow gap of approximately 1/16 of an inch, filled with caulk, to allow for this expansion and movement while still allowing for tile shower waterproofing.
