"Outstanding work, respectful and professional crew, easy to work with, very fair pricing. They did a lot of excavating and spreading of dirt & gravel, built a beautiful rock wall along with site prep for a shop spot. We would hire them again, we highly recommended this company,"

"These guys are amazing! I had a general idea of what I wanted, and Ryan and Brandon came out helped me bring my idea into reality. They’ve created a patio of pavers, a fire pit, a bench, a waterfall. They have planted trees and shrubbery brought in river rock, installed a couple of French drains where I needed them, and have worked with me every step of the way. In at least one instance, they got started with something where I told them to do it and then contacted me and said “it isn’t going to look right here” or “the way you want it won’t work. This is what I suggest”. And when it was done. It was better than I could’ve imagined. They are honest, reliable, professional, and proactive. I would hire them again in a heartbeat."

"I hired Lason with Track works back in April 2023 to Excavate for My new garage and I could not have been happier with the work Lason did. He was always on time and made sure everything was completed to my satisfaction. There was only one small problem during his work on the project with the gravel layout and he took care of it the next day. In my opinion Its not about what the problem is but how quickly it gets resolved and Lason took care of it immediately. I would highly recommend Track Works for any project you may have and I would hire him again."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

The best method for digging a trench depends on the scope of the project. For a short, shallow trench (less than 2 feet deep) in light, soft soil, digging by hand may be sufficient. However, digging by hand is labor-intensive, so consider the effort required. A machine trencher is the better option for longer trenches (over 100 feet), deeper ones, or when dealing with difficult soil conditions, such as rocky or hard ground, or obstructions like tree roots. A machine can save significant time and energy in these situations.

Hard soil could be a sign of overly dry dirt, either from poor drainage or drought. It's important to test the nutrient levels, density, and drainage capacity of your soil to see if it's absorbing water properly. Begin by adding a light layer of water and observing how long the soil retains moisture. If you experience a good deal of runoff, you may need to aerate your lawn, apply a wetting agent, or hire a professional for a closer look.

Trenching and boring are two distinct methods for installing underground utilities. Trenching involves digging a channel using equipment like an excavator, trencher, backhoe, or shovel. While it is a simpler process, it causes significant disruption to the surface, landscaping, and surrounding ecosystems.

Boring, also known as directional boring, is a less invasive alternative that uses a drill to create a tunnel for utility lines without disturbing the surface. This method is more precise and is ideal for installations that need to go underneath buildings, roads, or bodies of water. Although boring is less disruptive, it is generally more expensive than trenching.

Yes, you can excavate in the winter, but it might make the job harder. Frozen ground is harder to dig, and snow or ice can make the work site more hazardous. A contractor may need special equipment and techniques, such as ground-thawing methods, to break through frozen soil. Although winter excavation is possible, it may take longer and be more costly than excavating during warmer months.

A walk-behind trencher can cut through roots as long as they’re not too thick, making a project much easier than digging with a shovel and other hand tools. Assess your terrain and the number of trees in the surrounding area to determine if a walk-behind trencher will ease the job. Digging a trench by hand is much more time-consuming and labor-intensive.
