"Gonzalez Landscaping & Tree Care did an outstanding job and completed the job quickly. Recieved quote on Thursday and they worked Friday through Sunday to complete the job. I also had them powerwash the house. I'll use them again in the future."

"Mr. Portillo was a life saver! He and his crew did an a ton of work for us in a rush job right before the 4th of July. Even though he doesn't live anywhere close to us, he came down to meet us after work to give us an estimate. Once we agreed on the final list of tasks and price, his team showed up in full force to get the job done. It took two days, but we were ready for the 4th. We are extremely grateful for his time and effort.

Delaware River Jack stone filling in bare dirt areas. Forming a stone bed.
In this project, we transformed a bare dirt area by using Blue Ice stone in the corner. Along the patio border, we added Delaware River Jack to seamlessly connect the entire stone bed around the pool.

"Beautifully. We choose them in 2014 because they were available after a major storm. In 2014, they repaired major damage to several trees and gave us excellent advice about trees on our property. These people are arborists, not merely tree cutters. In 2016, they moved a 10-ft section of decorative block wall away from a large tree. The results were stunning: you would think that the wall had originally been laid in its current location.. In neither case did we get other bids, but I suspect this firm is a bit pricier than many others. Still, I would ask them for a proposal, for you will get a free education that is worth your time."

"Carlos, Heidi, and the entire H&C crew is nothing short of amazing! They took down 7 huge trees for us plus trimmed a few trees today. Incredibly hard working crew and meticulous attention to detail! I don't have enough words to say how relieved we are to have the trees no longer looming over our house. We will definitely hire H&C again! Thank you for a job well done!"

"They did a great job cutting down two 60-foot tall oak trees on a very cold February day. They showed up on time, left the yard extremely clean, stacked some of the wood for a fire pit, and trimmed a few more trees (extra feeâ very reasonable). Price was very reasonable and the service quality was great. Highly recommend them!"

"Went great. They planted numerous 6-8' arborvitae and leyland cypress, as well as re-planted a couple of large shrubs I had in the yard, and moved our shed. They did an excellent job, and were the best priced of all the estimates I got . They were also the most responsive of the companies I got estimates from, and Lily was always quick to get back to me to schedule and to answer questions."

"Excellent service. I called to setup a consultation for the removal of a dead tree in my backyard. Their foreman arrived on the same day (on a weekend) and gave me a quote to remove the dead tree as well as some brush in the general area. Work was completed during that week and the crew did an excellent job cleaning everything up. Would definitely hire again."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Unlike some fruit trees, such as apple, sweet cherry, or pear that require at least two trees for pollination, most peach trees are self-pollinating. This means you can plant just one tree and still expect it to produce fruit, typically within two to four years. For best results, consult with a local landscaper to choose the right peach tree variety for your specific climate, soil type, and yard layout.

If you’re wondering whether you can plant a tree where the stump was removed, know that the soil conditions won’t be ideal, so you should avoid it. The soil beneath the previous tree will likely be depleted of nutrients, plus there may be roots left behind that will seriously hinder the growth of a new tree. Also, if you use salt or other chemical solutions to kill the stump, these can linger in the soil for months or even years and prevent healthy growth. It’s best to choose a different spot that’s at least three feet away for a new tree, or wait at least a year and thoroughly amend the soil before you plant.

While there is a lot of debate about whether boiling water is strong enough to kill tree roots, it is not best to remove the roots from large, old trees. You may be able to weaken young roots enough to remove them manually, but boiling water will likely not do the trick for large root systems.

Carefully pruning small roots no thicker than three inches in diameter won’t harm the tree. However, cutting larger roots may impact the tree's stability and nutrient absorption. It's advisable to consult an arborist or tree care professional to evaluate the root's size, the tree's health, and the potential impact of cutting. Proper tree pruning techniques and timing can minimize damage, but larger root removal may necessitate expert guidance to avoid compromising the tree's overall health and stability.

It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but it is generally not recommended unless specific conditions are met. You should only consider this project if the tree is small (e.g., under 4-5 inches in diameter and short enough that you don't need a ladder to reach the branches), and you are experienced in handling a chainsaw. The tree must also be located far from any power lines, fences, homes, or other structures. Even for small trees, the work can be dangerous, and it's always advisable to have a spotter to ensure the tree falls correctly and no branches fall on you.

For any tree that is large, requires a ladder to access, or is near electrical lines or structures, you should always hire a professional. Attempting to remove a large tree yourself is extremely dangerous, poses a risk of serious injury, and could result in significant damage to your property.

Before any tree removal, it's also important to check your local and state regulations to ensure the tree is not historic or otherwise protected by your city.
