"First of all, Greg Emert answered the phone on January 2nd (New Years Day observed holiday). He was honest about his workload and called back later in the day when he couldn't make it. He showed up early today as promised, and quickly isolated and repaired the problem. He charged me a fair price and didn't try to make it into a large project. Very decent guy, very professional. I'd hire him again."

"Booked an appointment on Sunday and Travis came out the following day to install two outdoor lights. Great customer service and talked me through the steps. He completed a home inspection to highlight areas of need for future projects. A little over priced but due to it being electrical, I rather pay the money needed to get the projected completed safety."

"I was an unlimited contractor for 32 years and retired. Couldn’t handle it , had to go back to work. I would like to say that I would work with Chris anytime . He was extremely productive , knowledgeable and professional, and I might add a great guy . Honesty is something you don’t see much anymore in the workplace, when he would tell he would do something it happened . Can’t wait to work with him again !"

"I live in Florida, lightning capitol, so I felt having lightning rods installed would be great protection for my house. I would recommend this company if you want to protect your house. They were very professional and efficient. Because of many different roof lines on my house, they needed to install 7 rods. They arrived at noon and finished in a couple of hours. I am very happy with their work, and feel much safer."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Roanoke, most electrical projects—such as new wiring, panel upgrades, or installing an EV charging station—require an electrical permit from the City of Roanoke Permit Center. According to the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation, inspections are mandatory at specific project stages. Be aware that permits expire if inspections aren't scheduled within six months, so coordinate closely with local inspectors to avoid delays.

Helpful?

After completing electrical work in Roanoke, schedule routine checks every six months for breaker panels and outlets, as recommended by the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. Look for signs of wear, such as warm outlets or flickering lights. For homes with older wiring, consider a periodic inspection by a licensed electrician to ensure compliance with the latest electrical code and to prevent hidden hazards.

Helpful?

In Roanoke, DIY electrical work may save money, but it can risk code violations or failed inspections if not done to the Virginia electrical code. Hiring a licensed electrician ensures compliance, proper permitting, and often includes a workmanship guarantee. The City of Roanoke Permit Center requires licensed professionals for certain tasks—like main panel upgrades—so always verify project requirements before deciding.

Helpful?

In Roanoke, frequent mistakes include skipping permit applications, using non-code-compliant materials, and overloading circuits. According to the City of Roanoke Permit Center, improper grounding and failing to schedule required inspections are also common issues. Always review the Virginia electrical code before starting, and consult a licensed electrician for any work involving your main service panel to avoid costly errors.

Helpful?

For electrical projects in Roanoke, always select materials that comply with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code. Licensed electricians often recommend using THHN wire for conduit runs and Romex for interior wiring. For outdoor work, weatherproof junction boxes and PVC conduit are preferred. Consult the City of Roanoke Permit Center for approved materials, and use a voltage tester to confirm safety before starting any project.
