"MIKE WALKER WAS AWESOME. THIS WAS A REPLACEMENT SERVICE DONE RIGHT. HE WAS PROFESSIONAL AND WAS NOT PUSHY. HE LETUS TALK OVER DIFFRENT PLANS. WHEN HE STARTED WORK HE WAS EFFICIENT. HE WORE COVERINGS FOR HIS FEET, FOR LESS DIRT TRAFFIC. HE FINISHED IN A TIMELY MANNER. HE DID NOT SMOKE OR PLAY LOUD MUSIC. WE WERE ABSOLUTELY PLEASED, HE REALLY KNEW HIS JOB, AND DID IT WELL. THANK YOU FOR SENDING SOMEONE WHO WAS THOROUGH AND ABLE TO EXPLAIN THINGS AS WE WENT. HE LEFT THE LAUNDRY ROOM CLEAN AND THE PRO QUALITY GAS HEATER WAS A PERFECT SIZE. THANK YOU. "I hired W B Lighting Rods/William Burden to install lightning rods on my home. I spoke to William on a Monday and by Thursday before 1 PM the lightning rods were installed on my home. William explained everything he was going to do before he did it. The lightning rods were affordable and most of all it gives me peace of mind knowing that my home is protected against lightning strikes and fire damage. I couldnâ t be happier with this company!!"

"I would like to recommend Joshua Smith as a Tesla installer and overall electrician. He did a great job for my wife and I on the installation of our powerwall 3 and car chargers within our garages as well as trouble shooting some other electrical problems at our new home at Smith Mountain Lake. Additionally, he answers phone calls and shows up on time. Again, we highly recommend Joshua."

"The problem turned out to be a burned out small electric door switch. I believe the price was way too expensive for the service performed and the price of the door switch. What more can I say? It got done."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Whether you need electrical upgrades depends on the electronics your game room includes. If your game room will have high-powered electronics, arcade machines, or a home theater, you may need to upgrade your electrical panel or add dedicated circuits. An electrician can assess your current system and provide an estimate for any necessary upgrades.

Yes, pool pumps use a significant amount of electricity, making them one of the biggest energy consumers in a home. A pool pump can use up to three times as much electricity as a refrigerator. Typically, a residential pool pump consumes about 1 kilowatt-hour (kWh) for every hour it runs. Because pumps often need to run for about eight hours a day to properly filter the water, this can add up to an annual consumption of 3,000 to 5,000 kWh, which can cost between $480 and $800 per year based on average electricity rates.

The amount of electricity your pump uses depends on its size, energy efficiency, and daily run time. To lower your energy consumption, you can choose an energy-efficient or variable-speed pump, ensure it is correctly sized for your pool, and run it only for the minimum time required to keep the water clean.

According to the National Electrical Code (NEC), GFCI outlets should be installed in wet or damp locations where they might be splashed with water or other liquids. This is to protect against ground faults, which are more common around water. Specific areas that require GFCI outlets include kitchens (especially near counters), bathrooms, laundry rooms, basements, garages, and all outdoor receptacles. Depending on local electrical codes, you may need at least one GFCI outlet in these rooms, or every outlet in the area may need to be GFCI protected.

Smart light switches are designed to work with most traditional light fixtures and wiring. However, there are several compatibility factors to consider. Some smart switches require a neutral wire to function, which may not be present in older homes (typically built before 1985). If you plan to use a dimming feature, ensure your LED bulbs are specifically the dimmable type. Additionally, a stable Wi-Fi connection is necessary for remote control, though some models may use other standards like ZigBee, which would require a compatible smart home hub.

The safest way to pull an electrical cord from the wall outlet is by gently but firmly grabbing the plug and pulling it out. Pulling on the cord instead of the plug can cause damage to the cord, leading to an increased risk of electrical problems like fire or electric shock. If you notice damaged wiring on an appliance or device, it’s best to stop using it immediately.
