Kellam's Plumbing is a full service Plumbing company. We do both old and new work, both repairs and replacement of outdated or damaged fixtures, water and waste lines, pumps, etc. Mr. Kellam is a licensed, bonded and insured Master Plumber brought in to consult with less experienced plumbers as a problem-solver. We have been serving Fredericksburg and surrounding counties for 40 years. We stand behind all our work. Because we are a small company with less overhead than large and franchised plumbing companies, our prices are very competitive. We expect payment upon completion of work unless prior arrangements have been made. We accept both checks and cash, but not credit cards.

"I made the mistake of hiring Kellem’s Plumbing. They replaced a disposal (badger1 1/3hp- charged me $250 sells for $125 in hardware store- tried to say the one at Lowe’s was a lower quality version???? ITS THE SAME EXACT MAKE AND MODEL. Company don’t have 2 production lines for “home owner quality” and “plumber quality” and them label them exactly the same.) Replaced a bathroom faucet (Kingston Brass Columbia 1.2 GPM Centerset Bathroom Faucet charged me $110 for a $38 faucet) 2x steel braided cables ($20 a piece they are $7 a piece) A quart of draino $14 The total for parts was $413 then he said “you have to add 1.9% on top of that for my “cost” whatever that means. His math came to $746 TOTAL FOR PARTS ALONE. Figure that math out for me ? He arrived at 8:15am and started working at 8:45 and finished at 11:15 and charged me 4 hours at $75 an hour for a total of $300. The total bill was $1046!! For a disposal, and a faucet. DO NOT HIRE THIS “COMPANY” They will absolutely take advantage of you, and then call you “money grubbers” when you pull a calculator out. You are better off hiring a reputable plumbing company in the area. If you’re trying to save money, do NOT look to KELLEM’S PLUMBING! If you see their Craigslist ad, RUN!"

Gas Logs questions, answered by experts

Most gas companies and utilities brokers will send a technician to relight a pilot light, but this may demand a service call fee. Contact your local gas company to inquire about available pilot light services. If it’s a no-go, just follow the aforementioned steps and light the manual boiler’s pilot light yourself.

Yes. There are a variety of standard pipe sizes used in plumbing. The main supply line connecting your home to the street is either 3/4 or 1 inch in diameter. Supply lines are 3/4 inch in diameter. Individual components are 1/2 inch in diameter. Meanwhile, your main drainpipe is often 4 inches wide. Most shower and bathtub drains are 2 inches in diameter, most toilet drains are 3 inches in diameter, and most sink drainpipes are 1 1/4 or 1 ½ inches in diameter.

Almost all new buildings in California need an earthquake shut-off valve. The requirements for an earthquake gas shut-off valve (and who can install it) depend on where you live. For example, according to the Los Angeles Municipal Code, you’re required to hire a licensed contractor to install one whenever you build, sell, or renovate a home. Check with your local building department for your city’s laws on installing, permitting, and inspecting earthquake shut-off valves.

Capping a gas line costs approximately $125. The final price varies from $75 and $150 depending on your contractor’s hourly rate. To completely remove a gas line and cap it at the base can cost up to $250. Most contractors will charge a flat fee instead of by the hour since capping is often part of a larger project.

Some natural gas furnaces can be converted to propane with a conversion kit, but not all models are compatible. Consult a licensed HVAC pro to determine if conversion is possible and cost-effective for your system. The process involves changes to burner orifices and safety controls, and must be completed to code.
