"It was very easy to work with Joe to finalize a quote and get the job scheduled. Once onsite, Carlos and his colleague knew exactly what to do and how to run the new electric circuit across the house from the electrical panel to the garage. The installed the EV charger we had purchased separately exactly how we wanted it. Everything worked perfectly. They even went the extra mile to come back and patch the garage drywall where they had made a few holes to run the cable even though it was not included in the job initially. Overall very happy with both the price we paid and the quality of the work. Will hire again for any electrical work we'll need."

"Very responsive, extremely knowledgeable, excellent problem solvers. They kind of really solved the mystery of why the generator didn't work that had to do with the electric."

"I have been hiring Cody Malone since we purchased our house in July 2012. They have switched out outlets, installed indoor ceiling fans, installed outdoor ceiling fans, ran electrical to my outdoor water feature and switched out my light fixtures. I plan to hire them again when I add electric to my detached garage. They always do a great job and arrive when they say they will. I have never had a single issue and they have been to my house for no less than six different projects!"

"These guys did a fantastic job and were an absolute pleasure to work with. Small business, all primary work done by the three owners/operators of the group, who are are masters in their respective fields: "Tech Guy", Electrician, and Gas Fitter. (I genuinely hope to not cause offense by this broadly generalized description). I had a 20kW Cummins LP/NG-fired automatic backup generator installed and connected to a new automatic transfer switch, and (since we had no existing gas system) a new 500gallon LP propane tank installed and under-grounded to feed the generator. My main electrical panel was brought up to current code in the process. The excavation and burial work was subcontracted to a trusted local operator that did really nice work, and they worked with Southern States to provide a tank and first fill. They handled all the permits and coordinated the inspections. Waiting for the county inspector, and waiting for Southern States to fill the tank after the gas inspection, were the only observable delays in the process, and those were negligible/reasonable. The SciFiHomes people were quick, efficient, and obviously practiced with all of their pieces of the work. They will strongly prefer Cummins-brand generators over the competitors, and they are more a more expensive initial investment compared to them. After doing my own research after their sales pitch, it is a very worthwhile "upgrade". The difference between Cummins' generators and the competitors is fuel efficiency; according to the math, I'll get over 24 hours of additional runtime vs (as an example) Generac's 20kW generator at 40% average load on a full 420gallons of propane in the new 500gal tank. With an extended outage, or multiple long outages as with last winter in Frederick County, that's a very significant advantage. Sorry for the "sales pitch"; I only included this to prove that they're in my opinion very justified in pushing the "premium" brand. We purchased the extended warranty uplift as well as their extended service agreement. We can't recommend them enough; fantastic experience, and this generator has already flawlessly provided over 20 hours of outage coverage in the 5 months we've had it. Winter is coming, and we'll be ready this time. It just works... These guys and their total solution probably isn't the absolute cheapest in the area... but we absolutely got what we paid for. Thanks SFH!"

"They did a fabulous job and I would recommend them to anyone!! The crew was professional and definitely knew what they were doing. Even from the beginning when I was looking to upgrade my old electric panel, they showed me different options and didn’t try to sell me anything I didn’t need. 10 out of 10 would highly recommend!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, pool pumps use a significant amount of electricity, making them one of the biggest energy consumers in a home. A pool pump can use up to three times as much electricity as a refrigerator. Typically, a residential pool pump consumes about 1 kilowatt-hour (kWh) for every hour it runs. Because pumps often need to run for about eight hours a day to properly filter the water, this can add up to an annual consumption of 3,000 to 5,000 kWh, which can cost between $480 and $800 per year based on average electricity rates.

The amount of electricity your pump uses depends on its size, energy efficiency, and daily run time. To lower your energy consumption, you can choose an energy-efficient or variable-speed pump, ensure it is correctly sized for your pool, and run it only for the minimum time required to keep the water clean.

Yes, electricians must be licensed, certified, and in most cases, insured. Licensing requirements vary by state and local municipality, but most U.S. municipalities require electricians to hold an electrical contractor’s license. It's always a good practice to confirm requirements with your local municipality. Even if licensing is not required in your area, hiring a licensed and experienced electrician often leads to a better end result.

A license is a legal requirement to operate a business and is necessary for pulling project permits. Certifications, on the other hand, are typically voluntary and demonstrate a certain level of expertise. In some cases, a certified electrician may send an apprentice or journeyman to perform the work, but they must operate under a primary electrician who holds the proper license.

Before hiring, you should verify the electrician's license, insurance coverage, and any third-party certifications. You can use Angi’s contractor licensing search to confirm a pro's license status. Additionally, businesses with the “Angi Approved” badge on our platform meet strict criteria, including having the required state and local licenses, passing a background check, and maintaining a high average rating.

If your outlet is testing fine but keeps tripping, that’s a sign your GFCI outlet is working, but there’s a problem somewhere else. Try plugging in different devices and see if the outlet keeps tripping. If it’s not the appliance that’s causing the issue, it could be a problem in your wiring. Faulty wiring can be a source of electrical fires and other serious problems. We recommend arranging an inspection by an electrician if an outlet appears to be working but keeps tripping.

You should install a 25-amp breaker for your outdoor electrical outlet. If your outlet is only for use in an outdoor kitchen area for standard appliances, then a 15- to 20-amp circuit breaker should work. However, you will need to install a GFCI receptacle or breaker to ensure that the breaker trips on contact with water.

The NEC prohibits the installation of electrical panels within clothing closets. Closets are filled with flammable items like clothing, mothballs, shoe polish, plastic containers, and exposed light bulbs. If the panel develops a small electrical fire, it won’t take long to bloom into a real disaster. If you have an electrical panel in one of your home’s closets, move it as soon as possible with the help of a professional electrician.
