"Despite bitter cold and slushy/icy ground, the crew arrived promptly when they said they would. The foreman was polite and clearly explained what they would do. He answered my questions and they quickly got started. To my pleasant surprise, when 5 pm and darkness came, they stayed until they finished the job - including cleaning up! I am very satisfied with the work, the professionalism, and the cost. 10/10, I will hire them again for the next repair on my house."

"They did a good job. Even though it seemed expensive as it's charged by hour, they worked very efficiently. The work was well done. We were very satisfied. Will definitely get them again."

"Elite Designs & Repairs Inc. was initially hired for repair of siding however after seeing the perfection of the work and outstanding customer service I decided to use him for other needed projects like replacing all shower faucets, installed LED lighting on front porch and in kitchen and painting 2 rooms. Top notch work performed and finished jobs when said it would be done!!! And at reasonable pricing!! I canâ t wait for my new floor to be installed by Elite Designs & Repairs Inc"

"Fantastic and professional. We have a small house and lost some of our gutters to a snow storm, so we decided to renovate the rest of our gutter system while repairing the damaged sections. Working with HGE was a refreshingly positive experience. All of their team members were courteous, straightforward, and responsive. The work took two days with a weather interruption in between, but communication was prompt which let us accommodate the weather. All in all, great company. I just wish they did fencing so I could hire them again."

"I listed a minor vinyl siding repair on Angi, and ESI were the only folks to respond — quickly. We made an appointment for Eddy to look at the project. He arrived on time, appraised the work, and promised to email me a written bid. The bid came that night, and I accepted it. We made an appointment to get the work done a few days later, Eddy and his helper arrived on time, and they did the work in a timely manner, including cleaning up afterwards. I asked them what other work they could do, and they said anything external on the house. I’ll keep them in mind for the future. Fair prices and good work — highly recommended!"

"Victor was a great handyman! He was very professional, knowledgeable and provided fantastic service. He was always on time and went out of his way to provide exceptional service. We are VERY pleased with the work that he provided and will hire him again to complete different projects for us. He did an awesome job in my family room in repairing a hole in my ceiling due to water damage. Then he did an awesome job with renovating my master bathroom upstairs. He gave me new flooring, new tile, new plumbing and painting. He does EXCEPTIONAL WORK !! His pricing is very reasonable. I would highly recommend Victor!!!!"

"Curtis, our project manager, was great! He was responsive to our requests and concerns â very easy to work with. I thought he managed the varied trades necessary for the building of our sunroom well. The whole project went smoothly after the county finally issued the building permits. I would definitely recommend Stoneridge and would use their services again â especially with Curtis as the project manager. And, Curtis had a crew clean up after all construction was done leaving us with a sparkling new sunroom. Thank you Stoneridge!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Bow windows need support because they are large and extend out from the exterior wall of the home. Bow windows may extend 1 foot to several feet from the outside of the home, so you’ll need to provide additional support to handle this weight. A window contractor will be able to provide the proper amount of support for your new bow window.

There are a few easy ways to locate a wall stud without a stud finder. First, try knocking on the wall with your knuckles. Most parts of the wall will sound hollow, but when you tap over a stud, it will sound more solid. Alternatively, since studs are spaced 16 or 24 inches apart, you can measure those distances from a corner of the room, which will always have a stud.

Stick frames, metal frames, or prefabricated concrete frames are included in framing a house, along with creating the framework and space for windows, doors, and entryways. Other aspects of developing a home—like drywall, insulation, windows, doors, and more—are not included in the cost to frame a house.

Baseboards don’t have to be nailed into studs. However, nailing them into studs adds to their stability. When studs aren’t available, you can secure them with drywall nails directly into the drywall and adhesive. Always aim to nail into studs, especially in high-traffic or impact-prone areas.

A cross brace for a fence gate should stretch from the top corner of the gate’s hinge side to the bottom corner of its latch side at a 45-degree angle to the bottom of the gate. This positioning distributes the bulk of the gate’s weight to the base of the post, taking pressure off the top hinge.
