"I hired Ultimate Craftsman to tear down an old deck and build a new larger screened in porch with sky lights in it's place. The designer Dave really listened to what I wanted and got on paper my exact vision. The owner Mark always answered his phone and was quick to address any concerns. He used quality materials and professional craftsman. His carpenter John and his roofer Rodney showed great pride in their work. The end result was exactly what I asked them to build and we have received many compliments from our neighbors."

"Geoff and his network of highly skilled, certified specialists were amazing to work with. Geoff is not just a contractor, he is a designer with a vision who helped us make the right decisions for our home, while keeping with our own style. If he were an HGTV personality, it would be Holmes. He makes sure everything is done correctly the first time, with high-quality materials that will last forever, and my favorite part, he explained the how and why throughout the process. He is knowledgeable, honest, timely and just so good at what he does. His work is clearly a passion, and it shows in every detail. With only a copper sink as inspiration, he changed my 1990's kitchen into a timeless work of art that is as beautiful and interesting as it is functional. He reconfigured a large piece of my house to accommodate a laundry room and and turned a half bath with minimal space into a modern full bath, without making it feel small. I can't say enough great things about working with him. And, while it may not matter to some, it mattered to me - Geoff is a nice, personable guy who I liked having in my home, as was every specialist he chooses to work with. He was respectful of our space, and cleaned up the work space at the end of every day. He was open to adding to his already significant workload with projects that popped up as we were moving in and figuring out how we wanted the house to look. It got to the point that I ran every idea by him and he never once made me feel like I was a bother because he cared and had a vision. About halfway through the initial kitchen/bath/laundry project, we decided to redo the all brick fireplace hearth. Geoff knew exactly what would look perfect, and was able to give us a stone fireplace, with granite mantle without significantly pushing back the timeline. It looks perfect, and he even took into account my dog when choosing the threshold material around the base (because the dog's nails would scratch up a wood piece). Just little things like that, the caring, the attention to detail, the situational awareness that Geoff has makes him the correct choice. He also identified other issues in my home (older home) that could eventually cause issues and offered solutions. Not trying to sell us anything, but just helping us be better home owners and letting us know what to look out for. I am so glad our paths crossed, I can't imagine working with anyone else, and I am so excited work with him on the next project.!"

"If you are not a handiman, you need Gary Tiller! Mr Tiller is a true professional. He took time to explain his findings as he progressed and he followed up with me a few days later to address any questions. His attention to detail is reflected in his report - I love having pictures along with the writeup. I will be calling him every couple of years just to check the condition of my retirement home."

"This was my second experience with QA. I finally decided to remodel my kitchen after a few months of contemplating. I admit I sought estimates from other companies b/c this was a huge investment for me and I wanted to make sure I did my due diligence. Ultimately, I went with QA b/c of the price (which was MUCH better than most estimates) and know their work is great. I was not at all disappointed. My cabinets and countertops are more beautiful than I ever imagined. Again, Mr. Neil was very professional and patient with me as I asked a ton of questions before the work was even started. He helped me pick out the most complementary combination and I am very very pleased with the end result. They were prompt and the work was clean. I'm happy that I chose them again to do work on my house.

Home Building questions, answered by experts

When planning home building, homeowners in Hampton frequently underestimate flood zone requirements and stormwater compliance. Because the area has high water tables and clay soils, secure a soil investigation early to prevent foundation redesigns. You should also account for strict wind load rules under VA building standards. Finally, prepare for local permit reviews and historic district restrictions to take several weeks.

Helpful?

A clear indicator of proper home building in Hampton is a finalized certificate of occupancy, proving all mandatory inspections passed. Check that the foundation sits at or above the required flood elevation. During framing, look for hurricane straps at every roof connection to meet VA coastal wind provisions. Additionally, verify that grading directs water away from the foundation and continuous vapor barriers are installed.

Helpful?

Foundation design is highly sensitive during home building in Hampton due to the shallow water table. Shortcuts in waterproofing lead to chronic moisture intrusion. Establishing correct flood elevation is also critical to avoid severe storm damage. Furthermore, improper roof-to-wall connections risk catastrophic failure during high winds. Finally, ensure your HVAC system is sized correctly to handle the intense summer humidity across VA.

Helpful?

Proper home building directly reduces flood vulnerability during tidal surges in Hampton. Homes built with correct insulation and properly sized cooling systems maintain consistent indoor temperatures and combat high humidity. Adhering to strict coastal wind standards prevents severe storm damage. Additionally, correct vapor barriers improve indoor air quality by preventing mold, while engineered foundations ensure long-term structural stability for years of comfortable living.

Helpful?

To ensure smooth home building in Hampton, start by verifying your flood zone and zoning classification. Schedule a pre-application meeting with local planning staff to identify site-specific requirements before drawing plans. Commission a soil report early to guarantee an accurate foundation design. Finally, coordinate your construction schedule around required municipal inspections to prevent work stoppages and keep the project moving efficiently.
