"Initial contract was to pain one bedroom, interior stair risers, front door and exterior trim. The price quote came in about $30 less than another company. I accepted the offer and paid in advance. The work was done 2 weeks later. Upon inspection, we found that there was one riser left unpainted and the exterior trim around the garage door light was also left unpainted. It took 4 weeks and several emails and phone calls to get the contractor to respond and finish the work.
Because we asked them to re-enter the house to finish the stairs, we also asked for an estimate to repaint the ceiling in the kitchen, caused by a water stain. We told them to begin work if the cost did not exceed $250. They began work, however, instead of repainting, they repaired it (removed the drywall around the stain, replaced, and plastered.) They did not repaint as directed.
I asked them to stop all work on the house. After several email and phone discussions, they admitted to their mistake and did not charge me for the work that was already done ($235 value). We agreed that no more work would be done and we would end our contract as is.
I am still waiting on the contractor to return the house keys.
Overall, the work done by the contractor, Tony, was satisfactory, although incomplete. The problem with this company is their management, which is unresponsive and lacks attention to detail. Manager was not responsive to our emails and did not pay attention to details of our painting request. I would not recommend this company based on their management of work contracts. The quality of the work and the cost was good and competitive.

"Clint did a fantastic job in resolving several items that arose during the inspection for the sale of our townhouse in Tysons Corner. Notably, he responded quickly to the initial request and then worked with our schedule to address the items dealing with the exterior deck, replacement of GFCIs and springs on the door leading to the garage. Can now move forward with confidence for the home closing. It was a pleasure meeting with him one-to-one as well as over the phone and by text. Absolutely professional throughout. Focused on doing an excellent job at a very fair and reasonable price. A definite "go to" professional. Highly recommended!!"

"Terrific, we decided to go w/ Stoneberger because their sales representative spent time advising and guiding us through the options, the colors and styles of doors. She listened to what we thought we wanted and helped us find the right solution. No other sales rep we met with offered that customer service. She also followed up on time and was super easy to work with once we decided on specific doors. Installation also was on time, efficient and went very smoothly. We had one issue that arose b/c of the age of our house and Stoneberger addressed it quickly and beyond fairly. Highly recommend them."

Doors questions, answered by experts

Most modern, standard doors are 1 ⅜-inches thick, so you should aim for this thickness unless you're building a door to replace an antique door or fit into a non-standard wall opening. Thickness varies when installing a pocket door or sliding barn door, so a good rule of thumb is to measure your existing door, if possible. For standard doors, you can also measure from the inside of the door to the door stop to gauge the proper thickness.

Not every door can be converted into a pocket door. Pocket doors require specific hardware and a hollow space within the wall to slide into when open. The door must be sturdy enough to handle the sliding mechanism but not too heavy, as excessive weight can cause operation and track alignment issues. While some standard interior doors can be adapted for use as pocket doors with the right hardware, it's essential to ensure the door's compatibility and the structural feasibility of creating a pocket in the wall.

You should hire a licensed and insured door contractor with prior experience installing folding doors. Installing these doors is much more complex than installing a standard sliding door; don’t leave this work to a general handyperson or attempt to install it yourself.

Swapping out old patio doors for something new can boost your home’s value. Fresh doors make your home look more modern and polished, add tons of natural light, and create a smoother connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Buyers love features that make a home feel open, stylish, and efficient, especially when updated doors come with better energy efficiency and security. High-end options like French doors can also bump the appeal even more, making your home stand out in a competitive market.

You want plenty of room between your pre-hung door and the framing in your wall to allow for shimming to get the door into the perfect position, so aim for about 1 inch on the top and both sides. That means you should make your rough opening about 1 inch taller and 2 inches wider than your pre-hung door. You’ll then use shims to stabilize and level the door before installing it.
