"I liked their professionalism with keeping me updated and calling with reminders. I like that everyone is certified and licensed and experienced. Terry was great and personable. He cleaned up any mess and showed me how the storm doors worked. All in all, a great experience!"

"Ray and his crews were just wonderful!!! What started as a drywall job morphed into plumbing, hanging doors, venting bathroom heaters, installing cabinets, framing windows and doors and a ton of other stuff! His work was always at the highest level of professionalism and done impeccably. He was great at communication and extremely fair with his pricing. I will recommend him to anyone who needs work done around their house! This project was a piece of rental property that I inherited that sustained damage last spring when a huge tree hit the roof. We reconfigured it to a lovely studio and put in new everything! It is gorgeous now and we couldn't have done it without Ray! He was patient with us as we discussed various options and gave us great advice all along the way. A great guy! A great professional!"

"Kevin was a few minutes late but I received email updates concerning his progress. He worked quickly and professional to reinstall a towel rack and robe hook in my bathroom and tighten a loose cupboard door. He replaced a faulty light switch downstairs so quickly that I don't realize he'd done it until he told me. The bathroom exhaust fan I had bought was not the kind I wanted, which he pointed out to me, so I ran to Lowes and got another. That one did not quite fit, but Kevin spent some time working it and was able to install it. It's now several days later, I have used everything he repaired several times, and I am very happy with he work. He was also polite and professional. They were not cheap, but I am very happy with them and plan to use this company and hopefully use him again in the future."

Doors questions, answered by experts

Solid-core, hollow-core, and panel doors offer options for various needs and budgets.

A security door costs an average of $1,400, but costs can range from $600 for a simple screen or steel door to more than $4,600 for a wrought-iron security door. You can also buy specialized locks separately for $200 to $600. If you decide to hire a pro to install your new security door, you’ll spend around $275 to $425 on labor costs.

Standard door sizes aren’t one-size-fits-all, but there are common go-to dimensions. For exterior doors—like your front door—36 inches wide by 80 inches tall is typical, though you’ll see 30- or 32-inch widths too, especially in older homes. Interior doors vary more. Bedrooms and bathrooms often use 30- to 32-inch widths, and closet doors can be anything from slim singles to wide bi-folds. Height is usually 80 inches across the board; however, always measure your actual opening. “Standard” only works if it matches what’s already in place.

It can affect security, especially if you don’t finish it properly. A Dutch door has more moving parts that can be compromised, so you’ll want to use solid hardware and make sure everything lines up and locks cleanly. If the latch is flimsy or the two halves don’t sit tight, it’s going to be easier to force open.

If you don’t know which door sweep to buy, look into getting a strip or bristle sweep. They’re easy to find at the store, work well for most doors, and the simple installation is DIYable. Before buying one, measure your door width and make sure the one you want is long enough. Most door sweeps are 36 inches long, and you can cut them down to size with a hacksaw.
