"Don't waste your time with this unreliable organization. They took over Conner's Pest Control (who we were with for 20 years) and it has been a disaster. Yesterday was the third time they didn't show for the scheduled appointment without any call. They want you to sit around ALL day waiting. We're moving on from them."

"Unsuccessful, but OK. This company doesn't do roof work or anything involving ladders for insurance reasons, so the inspection was limited. Visible parts of the house and roof were inspected, no obvious entry points were found. We had a good discussion about what the pests might be (flying squirrels, roof rats), what I should look for, and the best way to seal up access points. Plus a side discussion on mice bait and bait stations. Some areas for me to investigate up close were pointed out. I was not charged, so essentially received a free consultation which provided value to me. I'll just have to get up on the roof myself (again) and take a better look around. I would be willing to hire Pestek for work that doesn't require climbing."

"Terrible company. They are not upfront about cost of services and tack on additional fees without informing you. This is a company that is only after the money and hook you into a contract. The product is not even very effective. I have watched them perform the service via my home security system while I have been away and the yard guard is a joke. They casually apply it around the perimeter of your home, but isn't it intended to guard your entire yard? This company is a joke. Never again."

"I had an extremely frustrating experience with "Best" Exterminating. Several major issues made this encounter unpleasant and disappointing as a customer: Failure to Communicate Clearly: The company never made it clear that payment would be due regardless of whether the groundhog was actually caught. The technician even stated that payment wouldn’t be required until the job was completed. If customers are expected to pay for failed attempts, that absolutely needs to be communicated upfront. No Effort to Follow Up: Once the trap was set and failed to catch the groundhog, I received no follow-up at all. For more than three months, there was no communication—no updates, no additional attempts to resolve the issue, and no check-ins about the status of the job. Unreasonable and Unexpected Billing: After months of total silence, the company sent me an invoice and insisted I pay for a service that didn’t deliver results. When I questioned this, they explained that trapping isn’t always successful, which is understandable. However, if the risk of failure is placed entirely on the customer while still charging full price, this must be explained clearly before the service begins. Lack of Empathy or Accountability: The company showed no understanding of how poorly this situation reflected on them. Instead of addressing the clear gaps in communication or offering any kind of resolution, they chose to stand by their policy without acknowledging their failure to inform me of it."

Pest Control questions, answered by experts

Although it takes time and possibly multiple treatments, roaches can be eradicated from your home. However, they can return if the conditions are right. That’s why taking the steps to prevent an infestation is key. You may also want to discuss preventative pest control treatments with your exterminator. That way, you can reduce the risk of another infestation.

Make it easier for your inspector to do a thorough assessment by preparing your home ahead of time. That includes:

  • Noting any signs of pests around the home

  • Removing obstacles in the way of the attic, basement, plumbing, garbage, and other key areas that inspectors will need to access

  • Keeping children and pets away from inspection areas

In addition to a clean home, fleas dislike oils made from plants that are naturally bug-resistant or poisonous to bugs. That includes myrtle, mint, eucalyptus, and especially cedar oil. Common household remedies like baking soda, garlic and apple vinegar don’t have any effect on fleas. Don’t spray essential oils directly on your own skin or your pets (and their bedding, because it can be a skin irritant. Stay away from tea tree oil. In pure form it can be very toxic to pets. Always ask your vet if you have any questions.

Paper wasps look similar to other wasps, like yellow jackets. They have narrow, but not thread-like, waists with black or brown bodies and yellow colorations. You can better identify paper wasps by their nests, which are made with regurgitated wood pulp. The nests look like they are made from paper and usually have visible hexagonal holes, like a honeybee hive.

They build their nests in places like eaves or branches, and their removal more often warrants the help of a wasp control specialist near you.

It’s unlikely true water bugs will get into your home plumbing system. You may find them in gutters, rain barrels, or open irrigation on your property. If there are bugs near your indoor pipes, leaky sinks, or other moist places, they are probably Oriental cockroaches. Consult a pest control professional to determine the pest hiding out in your plumbing system.
