"I requested quotes from 4 places on Angie's List. Mike called me less than 60 seconds after I hit submit (only one other placed called me, and that was after Mike had already been to my house and done the work). He quoted me $389 to remove the old toilet and put in a new one, parts and labor included. I knew that toilets were $200-$300 for parts alone, so I was pleasantly surprised by this low number. He and another guy (I can't remember his name, sorry!) showed up the same day to do the work. They were friendly and professional, and were in and out in less than an hour. Fantastic work, done quickly and inexpensively."

"I had a toilet repaired, a new garbage disposal installed and a hot water heater replaced. The price was reasonable, better than the other bids and the quality was great. I appreciated him telling me what was done to bring things to code and that the amount charged was the same as the bid. Nice work, I will use them again."

"They were polite, professional and worked very hard on our bathroom remodel. I believe the demolition of our old shower was much worse(harder) than was antcipated but they just did the job (excellant) with no complaints. We will gladly reccommend them for plumbling and remodelling ."

"It was around 9pm on a Friday night. We called and left a message with an answering service. Brad had called back to talk to us and got to our house a little over an hour from our first call. Brad was very professional. He never made us feel like we were intruding on him which might be a problem with some people being after hours and all. It turned out he needed to pull the toilet to get to the clog. The charges were reasonable too. I expected it to be a lot more especially with the after hours fee ($99.00) but it was still less then I was expecting. I was expecting close to $300 but it was one $225. Well worth getting our toilet back before Monday. I would definitely recommend them.

"I called four people the same day. And he was the very best, forthright and honest. There is a gimmick that the competitors use that they will clean one drain for $30, but they won't give you a price for the entire job. He was terrific!"

"Paul, the owner of the company, met with me a couple of times to discuss the options I had. My 90-year-old sewer line was replaced by "bursting." His subcontractors were all friendly and excellent workers. I would happily recommend Salt City to anyone needing sewer repair."

"I had a great experience with Upfront Drains Heating and Air Conditioning. They provided a free quote for my project. Since I was having a new toilet installed, I was given the type of toilet that I would need. So, I purchased it, and Randy picked it up from Lowes and promptly came to install it. He was always courteous, professional and friendly. He answered my questions and seemed to be quite knowledgeable. Randy was efficient in removing and then installing the new toilet. He hauled away the old fixture and cleaned up after himself. Before he left, I tested the toilet, and it works much better than the previous one. Everything went quite smoothly. I appreciate his knowledge, skill and professionalism. I am very pleased."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Yes, you should screw your flange to the subfloor, including cement. The best way to get this done is to predrill holes into the concrete using a hammer drill and a ¼-inch concrete bit. Be careful when you’re ready to bolt your flange down, as you can accidentally crack it. You can avoid this issue by not installing the screws too deep. Or, you can opt for a flange with a stainless steel ring so you don’t have to worry about cracking the plastic.

While gasket-sealed PVC flanges are the type most commonly found in homes, flanges come in a range of different materials, including copper, brass, stainless steel, cast iron, and aluminum, that pros sometimes secure with glue. If this is the case in your bathroom, the replacement is a job better left to the pros.

Your toilet handle might not come back up if the nut is loose or the bolt threads are stripped. Try to tighten the mounting nut and wrap plumber’s tape around the handle bolt to fix stripped threads. It’s possible the handle was improperly installed. If that’s the case, you can use the instructions above to correct the handle’s position.

Most toilets weigh between 50 and 100 pounds, depending on the material, size, and style. Some toilets can be disassembled into multiple pieces, which can make them easier to carry and dispose of. If you’re concerned that a toilet is too heavy to remove and lift on your own, enlist help or use a dolly to support the weight rather than carrying it yourself.

If a bolt at the bottom of your toilet tank is loose, it can directly cause a leak. If a bolt securing the toilet base to the floor is loose, it won’t directly cause a leak but can lead to the same result over time. That’s because the loose bolts will eventually move the wax seal or cause cracks in the bowl from the toilet being wobbly.
