"Overall, we are very pleased with our new deck from The Deck and Patio Company. The crew was very professional, polite, and friendly. Each day they spent the time to clean up the project site and were always willing to answer any questions we may have had. The quality of the wood, carpentry, and staining was excellent. The only drawback was the length of time (13 weeks) between contract execution and start of the work"

"Workers showed up on time and when they were done you couldn't even tell that they were here. Very courteous and friendly employees, answered any and all questions I asked. Asked me if I would like for them to spread any of the remaining dirt in certain spots and hauled away what was left over after that. Cost of the entire job was middle of the road as far as quotes go but they did an excellent job. Entire job took just about 10 hours to complete (started at 930am and completed a little after 7pm). Ty, Eddie, Raul and the rest of the employees are all good people and I would definitely recommend anyone needing foundation work to give them a call.

"After meeting with many foundation companies I ended up going with FSS. I am glad that I did! They were always professional throughout the entire process. They had to dig 19 holes in the garage and outside of my house and were in and out in only a few days :) They even came back a week later after the rain had stopped so they can properly clean up my backyard. I also had the foam done to straighten up my front walkway and it turned out great! If you need foundation work dont hesitate to call this company! Thanks again to the FSS Team for making this an easy process!"

"The concrete raising went perfectly. The silicone replacement joints were not up to our standards on the first pass. We gave a partial payment and waited for a while for the joints to be reworked. Most of the delay had to do with weather but Southern Concrete kept us informed through all delays and completed the job with excellence."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Granite is the strongest commercially available stone houses are built from. It’s also more commonly available, which means transport costs aren’t as high because a granite quarry isn’t too far from a build site. Limestone and sandstone are popular materials as well, but they aren’t as strong or weather-resistant as granite.

When it comes to how to paint a brick chimney, consider that standard paint can seal in moisture and cause serious chimney problems. Instead, use a vapor-permeable sealant. You’ll first scrub and sand the chimney; then, you can patch any gaps with caulk and apply the sealant. We recommend hiring a pro for this job since it entails working on the roof, which comes with a lot of necessary safety precautions.

A well-made brick wall can last up to 100 years if maintained properly, which includes regularly repairing the mortar every 30 to 50 years. If your brick wall is under 30 years old and is already showing signs of repair, it may be due to poor brickwork and installation. Extreme weather conditions can also accelerate a brick wall’s life span (especially the exterior of a house).

Use fire bricks for a brick pizza oven. These bricks are typically used for fireplaces and chimneys as they can withstand high temperatures from heat sources. If you attempt to use any other kind of bricks, it’s likely that this material will crack from such high heat exposure in the best case—and potentially explode and cause serious harm in the worst case.

Removing paint from brick can have both aesthetic and practical value. Some people prefer the timeless look of bare brick, making it worthwhile to remove old paint layers. Brick also lasts longer when unpainted, as paint traps moisture, causing the brick to deteriorate more quickly. If your brick walls are already in bad shape, stripping the paint off might do more harm than good.
