"Greg Simmons did an outstanding job of bringing our house back to life after Harvey. Although we had a relatively minor amount of water in the house, we completely removed all drywall, floors, cabinets and doors. From the very minute we first contacted Greg, we felt that he really cared about us and about rebuilding our house with quality. His own home was flooded, and his family was displaced by the storm. Instead of focusing on his own problems, however, he put his customers first. Although sub-contractors have been in short supply over the last several months, and building materials were sometimes difficult to obtain, Greg has his own committed teams and was relentless about following up to get what is needed. He never failed to call or text back the same day with an efficient but meaningful response. Greg worked within our insurance budget even when building costs increased and delivered the promised work for exactly the amount committed. He charged only for the work he actually performed and was fair and accurate about record keeping. When unexpected challenges arose, Greg came up with efficient and creative solutions that did not break the bank. Change orders were created fairly and efficiently at a reasonable cost, and we were always given several options at different price points. The final product looks great. He has good crews and sub-contractors, but he supervises them well and carefully inspects their work. Even after we were satisfied with the quality, Greg insisted on resolving every last item that did not meet his own high standards. He turned away a lot of work, so he could focus well on the commitments he made. Greg is justifiably proud of his work. We would not hesitate to use him again or to recommend his work to anyone."

"Darien came and explained what would be done. She was even able to include two small areas as a bonus. The contractor that did the work was very informative, cooperative and helpful giving me ideas that added to the beauty of the area. The work was done in a very professional manner. I am pleased with the outcome."

"Iconic Custom Home Builders met with us to understand our kitchen remodel. They took notes and listened to what was important to us. Their quote matched our asks and was detailed in sections for each of our asks. Other quotes we received were bundled and we were not able to pair the project down with noticeable savings. Iconic's quote was not bundled and we appreciated the level of detail in their quote. We signed the agreement and the work began within 2 weeks. They were very prompt every day. They did excellent work with high degree of attention to details. Since we were living in the house during the remodel, they did an excellent job keeping the dust inside the construction area with ceiling to floor temporary plastic barriers. They completed on time, on schedule with the original project timeline. With Iconic you know you have found a reputable, reliable contractor. We would highly recommend and will use them again."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Carpenters are trained to take on a wide range of home projects. You can hire a carpenter to do framing, roofing, build custom furniture, and make significant upgrades to your home. General carpenters are usually able to handle most jobs. However, you may also choose to hire a carpenter who specializes in a specific type of carpentry.

It’s best to use two screws to secure deck boards into every joist. Securing the boards to every joist makes the deck more structurally sound, while using two screws on the outer sides of the boards can help prevent warping and cupping.

Using a steel frame may raise the value of your home. Steel is more heat resistant, has better longevity, and doesn’t need any upkeep compared to traditional wood. You can also customize a steel build a little easier than other materials like brick, concrete, and vinyl—which have trouble bending and adapting to renovations.

Joists do distribute their load to beams, but they don’t sit on top of the beams. Instead, home builders nail or screw the joists directly to the beams such that the end of the joist butts up against the edge of the beam. Beams can sit on other beams for support, but you’ll never see a joist sitting on top of a beam or another joist.

Costs depend on furniture type, size, complexity, and whether additional modifications are needed.
