"The New Water Softener System was installed in the Garage. It fit perfectly in a designated area in the Garage. I am very happy with the level of service and quality of product. I did my research on the Clack Water Softener System. It is known for it's reliable/longevity."

"I had a great experience with the team who first came out and identified the reason I had no hot water to the replacement of the water softener which was the problem. I decided to replace the water heater as well because of its age."

"Work went great. Our initial call was due to a leaking water heater and leaking shower valve. I called Legend Plumbing and Jesse came that morning. He observed that we had galvanized piping, and getting the house re-piped was on our list of things to do. Legend Plumbing gave us a 'package' bid in which we were given a significant discount on the water heater replacement, plus repairing the shower and re-piping the house and water line leading from the water meter to our house. We had to have the water shut off twice, and they worked with us to accommodate our schedule. When they were scheduled to work they arrived promptly, and cleaned everything up before leaving for the day. We are extremely pleased with the work and will definitely hire Legend Plumbing again."

"Before the water heater installation, the technician said that in order to meet code requirement the water heater needed a vacuum breaker, which cost $95 above and beyond the $900 coupon price. I said to him that the coupon price should be for a water heater that met all regulatory requirements instead of charging me extra for the vacuum breaker that's a code requirement. He said no. Since I needed the new water heater badly, I asked him to go ahead to install it and I would call his manager to talk about this. When I called the manager he said he had to talk with the technician when he returned to the office the next morning. When I called the manager again Monday morning after he had a chance to talk to the technician, he reduced the charge for the vacuum breaker to $30, perhaps the cost of the parts. However, I still think that the vacuum breaker should be part of the package cost because they are supposed to supply and install a water heater with all parts required by prevailing codes because it's not an optional equipment. Also, the technician used a pressure regulator, a flexible copper hose, and a power supply cable from my old water heater instead of using brand new ones. Since the coupon did not list all these details, I couldn't argue about this, but the previous company which installed my last water heater supplied all these brand new, including the 3/4" brass ball valve for free while I had to pay $95 for it now.

"Excellent equipment but found out later price could be beat from not only competitors but others offering kinetico equipment. Just felt like I was dealing with car salesman. What I mean is there is so much variation that it's hard to shop and feel you received a fair price. Not just this company but all softeners in general."

"Patriot Plumbing save our butt. We had a bad plumber. Most plumbers do not want to deal with fixing others screw ups. Patriot Plumbing came through and now we are able to live in our house. Family owned and awesome. I will not hire anyone else to do plumbing work. The picture below is only one bathroom but they did all of our house."

The license requirements for water softener installation depend on your location. Some municipalities require that the installer hold a plumbing license, some require a permit and an inspection, but no license for the installer, and some require a permit and a license for the installer. Regardless of the local laws in your area, it’s always a good idea to hire a licensed plumber or installer. These pros will install your system properly and have the experience to size the system appropriately. Use Angi’s state licensing tool to check your installer’s license status.
Water softeners are worth the money if you live in an area with hard water. Hard water is safe to drink, but it poses serious threats to your plumbing system. The minerals in hard water will gradually build up on the inside walls of your pipes, reducing water flow to your fixtures. The minerals can also gradually corrode your plumbing system, reduce its lifespan, and increase the risk of leaks. Hard water also makes soap and detergent less effective. Water softener systems can solve all these issues, making them a great investment.
It’s possible to install a water softener yourself, but we don’t recommend it. Water softeners require working with copper pipes and electrical wiring, neither are suitable tasks for most DIYers. Plus, working with water and electricity together is dangerous and could pose a risk to your safety. Water softeners also need to be calibrated so that they don’t make your water too soft, as soft water poses just as many risks as hard water. Overall, it’s well worth hiring a local water softener installer to place your water softener system.
The cost to install a water softener system is $1,500 on average, ranging between $200 and $6,000. The labor for water softener work typically costs between $150 and $1,000, so you can add that to your equipment costs to get an accurate total. Your price will depend on many factors, including the following:
System capacity
Home size
Water hardness levels
Type of water softener
Presence of electricity in the installation area
Local permit costs
Your water softener size is based on your total household water consumption. In most cases, you can assume the average household member will use around 75 gallons per day. Multiply that by the number of people in your home, then multiply by 10 (for the typical grains per gallon). You’ll get a number in grains that should help roughly size your water softener. However, it’s best to hire a professional to install your system and use more exact numbers, like your exact average water consumption per day and starting water hardness.

Water softeners rid your home of hard minerals and, well, soften your water. Even better, the regeneration process is an automatic cycle that works when you’re least likely to use it.

Your water softener works overtime to keep your water safe. Use this guide on how to check your water heater for damage or poor performance.

There are four common softener alternatives available on the market today. We compare and contrast each one to help you find your best-fit solution in this blog.
