"Cesar was great to work this. Came out immediately and provided a good quote. His crew was able to come out the next day. Power washed the fence, replaced some damaged boards and rebuilt the gates. Restained everything, the fence looks great. Cesar walked through with me ensuring I was satisfied."

"Nice. Love the color, they power washed including the deck that needed serious cleaning. Painted 2 story house with balcony, lots of nooks and cranies and the deck. Great job covering the windows and protecting things that didn't need paint/overspray. Very happy with the results."

"Michael and his crew did an exceptional job. Michael was very patient and made sure I got the right color on my house by doing a sample wall and he was never one to say no to trying another color. He and his crew did an exceptional job staining my home. They were very neat and tidy, and also didn’t get any overspray on other areas of the home that we were not staining and pressure washing. Michael even came back promptly when we found things that needed to be fixed in the end. Dallas varsity Painting is so good. I would recommend them to anyone. You will not be disappointed. Great quality, great work and great people that work for him. I would hire him again for sure."

"GREAT WORK! We have used this company for all our painting needs. Used since 2018. They recently completely redid all my kitchen and utility room cabinets including the island. Went from old stained cabinets to beautiful painted cabinets. They always take great care in taping off and using plastic to cover areas to prevent overspray and unneeded brush marks. Always on time and keep the work area clean. Our house was in terrible condition when we bought it, but with MQ’s help it is now one of the nicest houses in our area. I HIGHLY recommend MQ for all our painting needs, inside and outside!!"

"Agustin and his crew did an excellent job.  Not only did they complete the work timely, they went over and above what I requested.  They also took extra care to make sure that all my belongings were protected while they we're working.  I will definitely use them again in the future and highly recommend them to anyone needing interior or exterior painting.  Thanks Agustin for a wonderful experience!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Wet-sanding and dry-sanding each have pros and cons. Dry-sanding is less messy, so it’s a good option if you’re trying to minimize dust (for example, if you’re sanding an occupied home or working with particularly dry or dusty drywall mud). However, dry-sanding is quicker because you don’t have to keep rinsing a sponge or wait for it to dry before painting.

Satin paint is generally considered a better choice for woodwork—including trim, baseboards, cabinets, and doors—than flatter finishes like eggshell or matte. Its soft sheen enhances architectural details and stands up well to frequent cleaning and daily wear. Compared to eggshell and matte finishes, satin is more durable for high-touch areas because it is less porous and doesn't absorb dirt as easily. Matte finishes, in particular, are prone to scuffs and are harder to clean, making them less practical for surfaces like doors and cabinets.

It is definitely worth sanding a deck to ensure the wood absorbs new stain. Sanding a deck removes the outer layers of aging wood, allowing the stain to penetrate. It also gives a fresh look to the entire surface as part of the deck refinishing process. Without sanding, your stain or sealant is less likely to absorb into the wood. While sanding a deck is a time-intensive project, the rewards are noticeable and long-lasting.

When staining a deck, don’t skip surface prep, avoid staining damp or dirty boards, and don’t apply stain in extreme heat, cold, or wet conditions. Never overload the wood with a stain, as too much can cause tackiness or peeling. Also, don’t forget to test a small area first to ensure the color and finish look right.

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.
