"The day the tile wall in my master bathroom collapsed when I leaned on it turned out to be my lucky day—it led me to Joe Maxwell and Tile & Grout Solutions, Inc. Joe and his installer Kiki (a tile genius!) built a beautiful walk-in shower where the tub used to be. That shower became what was until recently the best-built part of the house—now it is joined by the gorgeous porcelain tile floors throughout our downstairs and on our stairs! Joe was a delight to work with from the very start. His estimates were thorough, and he explained every step in the installation process, including the timing and the materials needed. Joe, Kiki, and their assistant tiler Leo were meticulous in their work, and they adapted adroitly to the unexpected—such as when they pulled up some old tile and found a hole through the slab with a water pipe running through it! The only reason there wasn’t a fountain in my entryway that day is because of Joe’s and Kiki’s ears: before pulling up the old tile, Joe happened to drop something on the tile covering the hole. When the thing hit the tile, it went “plink” instead of “thunk.” Joe and Kiki looked at each other in alarm—“plink” indicated a hollow spot under the tile where it should be solid. So, instead of using a jackhammer to pull up the tile, they gently used a hammer and scraper. Fortunately, that hole was the only surprise, and the rest of the job went smoothly. Every evening, my husband and I come home and remark on how beautiful our floors are—we are thrilled! We hope Joe and Kiki can put up with us when it comes time to tile our upstairs! Thank you, Tile & Grout Solutions, Inc."

"[Service Provider Name Redacted] was great to come out the day after I called to give me a quote.  She was courteous and promptly responded to all communication.  She provided some good insight into use of tile in the inset portion of the shower.  Bottom line the tile guy is the one who makes or breaks the job and fortunately [Service Provider Name Redacted] hired a good one.  [Service Provider Name Redacted] worked diligently and meticulously and the finished product is beautiful.
No job is flawless and so I have to mention that there was an error made in the amount of tile ordered...too little...and so the project rolled over into a second week which was a pain.  I understand that can happen, but in the end the project turned out well.
I would have appreciated the tile guy coming better equipped with bags and such to discard the old materials, versus carrying out a handful at a time.  Also, I ended up putting down a wider, stronger roll of paper to cover the path to my bedroom, versus the narrow craft paper that he provided.  That was my preference but I have a high priority on keeping things protected and as clean as possible during a dirty job like this.  I also spent money on plastic to cover my bed, bathroom vanity, etc.  I would like to see them come in with rolls of new plastic to cover all areas surrounding the demolition area, and strong red paper rolls to cover flooring.
My home is probably on the periphery of [Service Provider Name Redacted] service area-- 35+ miles away, but [Service Provider Name Redacted] was good to make three trips out to access the project and provide a quote, to introduce the tile guy on his first day of work, and lastly to inspect the work when it was nearing completion.
Also, when I found moldy looking insulation after the walls were demolished I took a picture and sent to [Service Provider Name Redacted].  She checked with the team at [Service Provider Name Redacted] and reported back that they thought it was fine and did not need to be removed, but offered the option to do so if I wanted.  So, I appreciate that they did not needlessly seek to increase the project cost"

"Footprints did an outstanding job. Very professional. Jobs were completed in two days (first job) and one day for the second one. Will definitely use them for two other projects in near future."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

The number of boxes of tile you need depends entirely on the amount of tile in each box or case. Different manufacturers package their tiles differently, and boxes contain different amounts of tile depending on the size, shape, and material. Often, the amount of area that a case will cover is listed in the product description. To calculate the number of boxes you need, take the total square feet of the space and divide it by the number of square feet the box will cover.

Yes, but you should only put tile directly on drywall in smaller areas that don’t experience excess moisture. For example, a small kitchen tile backsplash could work, but installing tile directly on the drywall in a bathroom or other chronically damp area is not a good idea. Either way, a cement backer board is a far more reliable solution, as drywall is susceptible to moisture and can warp or cause your tiles to crack.

No, tiling over painted walls or wallpapered surfaces is generally not recommended. Textured surfaces and paints will affect the adhesive, possibly causing tiles to lift or fall off. Painted walls with a semi-gloss or high-gloss finish are particularly difficult for adding tiles. It’s wise to strip the paint first if you install the tiles to drywall, although it’s still best to opt for a cement backer board.

Yes, you can tile a shower as a DIY project, and you can save hundreds of dollars in labor costs by doing so. However, you’ll need to rent or buy quite a few tools and supplies for the job, including a saw, tile nippers, and a new shower pan. In terms of the work itself, you should be prepared to tackle a variety of different tasks, including measuring and ordering materials, removing old tile, waterproofing the wall, adding rows of tile, grouting, and more.

It’s not a good idea to lay tile and grout on the same day. The adhesive or thin-set that sticks the tiles to the surface needs plenty of time to dry before you can grout. Wait for 24 to 48 hours, depending on moisture levels in the space. The tiles can become misaligned and more prone to damage if you don’t wait.
