"Very professional, friendly, competent, and detail-oreinted shower installers. They explained everything well, made sure the grab bars were at the perfect height and places for our 90-year-old dad, started and finished the installation the same day and even wiped down our floor afterwards. Dad is able to shower safely and comfortably and he likes the upgraded showerhead. We are all very happy we chose Hill Country Tub and Shower to replace our mobile home's cramped tub and shower with a walk-in shower."

"I had two countertops and lighting replaced in my bathrooms, and the overhead light in my garage replaced. The Carpenter’s Hand team did a great job. And the cost was much better than other quotes. Unlike other companies that you never hear from once the job is done, Jeff makes sure you are happy with everything before he considers it done. I will definitely use them again."

"Guys Unlimited are Amazing!!! Joseluis and his helper Enrique are amazing at what they can do. From painting and wall repairs to bathtub cleaning, they’re outstanding. They were careful to avoid staining carpets and floors but cleaned up anything that needed cleaning. They would stay later to finish the job, if necessary. I can’t say enough about this crew except they are exceptional!!"

"This project required removal of the old bathtub. New lumber replaced old wood and new plumming was replaced in foundation. This was a difficult repair but the finished product is so beautiful."

Small jobs welcome

"I hired them to replace my flooring, about 1500 sq ft, They worked hard, they finished in a day and a half. I was very impressed with their attention to detail. They also installed quarter round and painted it along with the baseboard, they were very precise. They cleaned the floor before they left, no paint drops anywhere on the floor. I definitely recommend this company. I love my floors."

"We chose Affordable Renovation Services to perform a partial remodel of our kitchen and couldn't be more pleased with the services provided. From the start of the project Marcus Armstrong was quick to respond, from working out our budget to finding solutions to the little snags I would imagine almost always pop up with a remodeling project. They converted our multi-level island into a single level, replaced our old double bowl top mount sink with a large single bowl undermount version. We also had them mount a convertible range hood vent following replacement of an old down draft cooktop. When we purchased the hood, our initial plan was to use it as ductless system but during the installation process it became evident that due to our existing cabinet structure, we really needed to have it installed with the duct routed through the wall instead. ARS did a great job of keeping us informed of the changes that needed to be made along the way and we couldn't be happier with the end result. Would definitely use them again in the future!"

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

The first thing to consider when converting a tub into a shower is whether you’d like to simply change out the tub or undertake a complete bathroom remodel. If you’re unsure, reviewing bathroom remodeling ideas can help you decide whether you’re satisfied with your space or could use a change. From there, decide if you’ll handle the job yourself or hire a pro, and then set a budget.

It is possible to install a two-in-one unit that has both a shower and a walk-in tub so you can still have both in smaller bathrooms or provide a showerhead for those in the household who prefer taking showers. You’ll hear these referred to as walk-in tub and shower combo units. Keep in mind that these combo units can take up more space than a standard shower or tub, and you’ll most likely need to hire a pro to install one.

Yes, $5,000 is a healthy budget for a DIY bathroom renovation. It can go a long way in making the space more accessible and stylishly spa-like. Providing you stick to modest materials and don’t make any major plumbing or structural changes, you can upgrade fixtures, retile, and add some stylish bathroom accessories and savvy storage solutions to maximize the space.

A standard bathtub can be used for soaking, but they tend to be shallower (between 15 and 18 inches deep). A soaking tub is designed to be deep enough to totally submerge yourself in the water (about 20 and 24 inches deep). Additionally, most soaking tubs are freestanding, while regular bathtubs come in various styles with drop-in, surround, and wall-mounted options available.

While they’re heavier than their counterparts, cast-iron tubs are very simple to maintain. They have no seams and are durable, making them the easiest tub to maintain. While fiberglass and acrylic tubs are also relatively simple to maintain, they often have seams, making maintenance a little more difficult.
