Customers say: Quick response

"I needed an expert to check out my fireplace issue- soot, air flow, rusty gas pipes. After checking all out (chimney was fine, no sweep needed) he determined a new gas log system was needed- rusty pipes were too gone and the prior installation was backwards! I picked a new set and installed it a few weeks later. Mr Hammond provided expert service, was honestly professional, and super clean. He arrives in a van with the name on the side and uniform-very safe and legit. Conversation was easy as his personality. I have him on my list for other work and already made a referral to another homeowner. (Austin, Texas)"

"I originally hired them to deliver and install mulch and soil in my flower beds. But in addition, they did some clean-up work in a rock river bed in my backyard, they delivered and installed new crushed granite in a couple areas in my backyard and they also delivered and installed some fresh sod patches. We are VERY happy with the work they provided, the speed in which they completed the work and the promptness in responding to my original Angie's List request. I will definitely use them for future landscaping work."

"Josh, Evan and the install team were great to work with, did an excellent job installing the sprinkler system, suggested adding some tree bubblers, cleaned out the weeds from our landscaping bed, which is more than I was expecting. We just had the install finished so need more time to test things out over time, but the experience so far has been excellent."

Fire Pit Installation questions, answered by experts

In addition to flashing, a roof cricket can help divert water around your chimney so that it drains properly off your roof. It’s shaped like a double triangle and is installed behind the chimney so that falling water spills evenly down each side. This helps prevent water from accumulating behind your chimney, which can increase water damage and the risk of leaks.

The International Building Code (IBC) requires cricket installation if a chimney built after 2012 measures over 30 inches in width. Chimneys constructed before that date are typically grandfathered in and aren’t required to have crickets installed.

According to the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA), the leading cause of house fires is cooking accidents, followed by fires started by heating equipment. Electrical issues are the third most common cause of house fires. The best way to keep your home protected is to use caution when cooking and never leave a stove or oven unattended while in use. You can also keep up with chimney cleaning and avoid using space heaters to reduce the risk.

Regular and professional chimney cleaning offers several key benefits. It prevents dangerous fire hazards by removing flammable creosote buildup, improves airflow and heating efficiency, ensures the safe venting of smoke and harmful gases, and can help you stay in compliance with local safety codes.

It’s technically possible in some areas to install your own fire suppression system, but it’s usually not a good idea. Your system must conform to the fire code in your area and will need to pass a rigorous inspection before being activated and deemed safe. Installing a fire suppression system is a complicated job, and making mistakes as a DIYer is likely. Those mistakes can cause you to fail your inspection, which means you’ll have to spend more time fixing the issues or money to have a certified plumber do the work for you. It’s best to hire a professional.

No, a chirping smoke alarm is usually a sign of an issue with the power supply of the unit. This is easily solved by replacing the battery to stop the smoke alarm from beeping. If the chirp continues, review the owner’s manual to determine the cause. These chirps are short and not as loud as the beeping of the alarm itself. If you can’t tell the difference, it’s best to treat it like an activated alarm until you find the cause.
