"Robert is an all-star carpenter! He installed 7 interior solid-core doors in my home. I am very happy with the project results, and will be using Robert's services at Delware Construction again! When the home was constructed in 1976, the door jams were terribly placed. Luckily Robert was able to resolve all my issues: fixing door jams, adding new hinge holes to doors, refilling old hinge holes, installing the doors, ensuring a proper door seal and trim alignment. Robert is No. 1!!"

"Louis Higgins is a master craftsmen in refinishing ceiling and drywall damaged by water. Also installed a new ceiling fan. I couldn’t be more pleased. He also repaired an out-of-line fence gate. This the second time I hired Louis to do several small projects and I would do it again."

"I recently hired Allen to fix a leaking faucet and install a water filter, and I couldn’t be more satisfied with his work. He was extremely professional, arrived on time, and completed both tasks quickly and efficiently. His attention to detail and expertise were evident throughout the job. Everything works perfectly now, and I truly appreciate his excellent service. If you’re looking for a reliable and skilled handyman, I highly recommend him. Fire Pit Installation questions, answered by experts

You can’t gauge the lifetime of a fire door like you could, say, an engine. Fire doors should be checked at least once every six months to ensure there are no signs of degradation like leaks, holes, water damage, termite damage, or anything else that might compromise the functionality of the door’s fire resistance. Check your smoke detectors while you’re at it.

Yes, it is possible. An electrical fire can break out if the compressor has inadequate ventilation. When it overheats but doesn't have a proper thermal cutout, this can cause the motor to short-circuit and catch fire. This risk is exacerbated if flammable materials, like dust and fallen leaves, are clogging the unit. The compressor overheating won't start a fire by itself, but poor maintenance and installation can increase the risk once it hits its breaking point and short-circuits.

Yes, fire extinguishers eventually expire. However, the good news is that a properly stored fire extinguisher can last a decade or longer. They don’t have an expiration date on the canister, but you can check the manufacturing date on the “UL” nameplate near the classification information. Maintenance will also give your fire extinguisher longevity. Check the gauge at the top of the extinguisher every month. You'll want to make sure the gauge needle is in the green section, and if a hose or nozzle has been used or damaged, you need to replace it.

Wiring a light switch wrong can cause a fire if the incorrect wiring causes arcing, meaning the current jumps uncontrolled from one conductor to another. Loose wires or worn wires that are not repaired or replaced can cause arcing. If you’re not 100% sure you can do the job safely, don’t attempt to wire a light switch on your own.

The damper, located just above the firebox, can open or close the chimney flue. The damper should remain closed unless there’s a fire burning in the fireplace. Closing the damper prevents energy loss through the chimney and cold air from seeping into the home during the winter. Opening the damper helps maintain airflow when there is a fire and prevents smoke and gases from venting into the house.
