"The tools were not charged when they arrived, no pictures of chimney inspection prior to cleaning, and I had to request a picture of the chimney interior once the very quick (what they called a deep cleaning) was done. I would not recommend."

"Amazing service and responsiveness - they were always in contact on arrival time, clear about what work was being recommended and performed, and completed the work quickly and fairly priced! I didn't realize how much of a problem I was having until they fixed it- it's like having a whole new house! 10/10 would recommend and will be the only person I work with going forward."

HVAC technicians charge around $175 per hour, but anywhere between $100 and $250 per hour isn’t uncommon. The total cost of your HVAC service depends on the type of work, the type of system, and more. Here are some important cost factors to consider to get accurate pricing:

  • Time of year

  • Urgency of your repair or service

  • Type of system

  • Type of repair you need

  • Whether or not you have a service contract

  • Size of your HVAC system

  • Brand of HVAC equipment

AC capacitors last between five and 15 years, with an average lifespan of 10 years. Most people only need to replace a capacitor once during an AC unit’s lifetime. You don’t need to replace the capacitor unless something is wrong with it, which an HVAC repair pro can diagnose.

No. Your furnace does not run your air conditioner. Both units use the same system of ductwork to move conditioned air throughout your home, but you can have a furnace without having an air conditioner and vice versa. Furnaces are only for heating your home. You can buy a system that does both, however, like a split system or a heat pump (yes, heat pumps cool, too).

The best way to compare HVAC quotes is getting a few detailed quotes from local companies with good reputations. Then, go over the quotes line by line. Protect yourself by insisting on in-person estimates that include equipment manufacturer names, model numbers, SEER ratings, amounts and numbers of materials, details of warranties on equipment and labor, and other specifics.

Knowing the exact equipment and materials is the only way that you can fairly compare quotes. Quotes that are much lower than others can be a sign that the company isn’t providing the best quality service or materials.

A new HVAC system combines components to control indoor temperature and air quality. Features include a furnace or heat pump and an air conditioner or evaporator coil, depending on the climate requirements. It also involves a network of ductwork for air distribution, a thermostat for temperature regulation, and electrical connections. Air purifiers or humidifiers can be integrated to improve indoor air quality.
