3rd Generation Roofing and Exterior Contractor with 70 + years of accumulated experience. We have an impeccable track record on Hilton Head Island with references to back it up. Additional email - info@raintight-roofing.com.
"Did a great job putting a new roof on our home. We had a small leak and felt very confident with Rain Tight from the first interaction with Jason. His knowledge and assessment of the leak along with realistic options made our decision easy. Another roofer said he would repair a section at a fraction of the cost to re-roof but neglected to take into account some of the other issues with the 17 year old roof, all of which Jason pointed out and documented with pictures. The re-roof job was done well and looks great. Highly recommend Rain Tight."

"Evangeline Construction was a blessing for my wife and I! We are very new to the area and looking for honest and experienced contractors. Anyone who’s ever hired-out to remodel their home knows it’s intimidating, and in most cases, a risky investment. Our new house (to us) needed help quickly. Thank God we found this team. My wife and I had previously spent years remodeling our previous home. That being said, we are not naive to the process. It takes a tremendous amount of effort, commitment, and vision. From start to finish, the Evangeline team was transparent, responsive, and committed to making our remodel a quick and easy process, with beautiful results. From floor refinishing, plumbing, lighting, countertops, and customer cabinetry, they did an Amazing job! My wife and I had a clear vision of what we wanted in our new custom kitchen. Danny did a fantastic job delivering on that vision. Because of his experience and skill in cabinet making, there was nothing we couldn’t ask for that he couldn’t accomplish. The custom crown at the end was a great touch as well! Vanessa was extremely responsive! She did a great job scheduling, communicating, and pivoting when necessary. Trust her team! They all work great together, and stayed on task the entire time. Would I recommend them to others? ABSOLUTELY! Without question. Period. Vanessa & Danny, Thank you for everything you’ve done for us!"

"Their service was phenomenal, they were quick, they cleaned up well and even fix a few this outside of their scope of work to make it a cleaner install. The only thing they forgot to do was re-attach the gas water heater exhaust vent."

Generally, general contractors charge between $50 and $150 hourly, though not every contractor charges by the hour. If charging based on the project, you can expect a markup of 10% to 20% of the construction cost. You can expect to pay between $300 and $500 daily if charged by the day.
General contractors are the ones that coordinate home construction projects. They are in charge of the day-to-day oversight of the subcontractors to ensure that the project is completed on time and to resolve problems as they arise. General contractors:
Complete pre-construction planning, both with the customer and crew
Provide realistic cost estimates
Develop construction timelines
Ensure deadlines are met
Acquire permits as needed
Purchase supplies and materials
Before hiring a general contractor for your home project, it’s a great idea to write down a list of questions to discuss with each prospect. Some example questions to get you started include:
Which types of insurance do you carry?
Can you provide a list of references?
What is the expected timeline for this project?
How will my project be supervised?
Will you hire subcontractors for the job?
What is the best way to communicate changes?
Will you obtain all of the required building permits?
While city and state laws vary on general contractor licensing requirements, hiring an unlicensed general contractor could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local general contractor guidelines for your area.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
Yes, most general contractors require a down payment for project completion. A reasonable down payment for a contractor is 10% to 25% of the total project cost, though that will vary based on project size and location. The down payment helps cover the upfront costs of materials and permits and helps ensure payment for the project at hand.
