"My undermount kitchen sink fell in on itself and I was not finding any contractor that would touch and undermount sink. Juan was more than willing and capable. It was a difficult task due to I wanted to replace the sink with a single bowl going from a dual bowl. The new sink was a challenge due to it being it slightly larger and deeper. The cabinet also was challenge, due it being a little small for the new sink as well, so he had to modify it, but it when he put it back together, it was like it never happened. He was able to remove the old sink, install the new sink, and update the plumbing for the single bowl as well. I could not be happier!"

"Jason Holland, owner of Rain Tight Roofing is a credit to his profession. He is extremely thorough and professional and he shares his knowledge with his customers. We had an odd roof configuration on our house. Rather than just offer a quote to reroof our home like every other contractor, Jason offered a creative solution and had quality carpenters capable of completing the modification. We ended up with a new front roof elevation and new roof with any rotted wood identified and replaced. If you need a roof repaired or replaced, go ahead and get quotes. But be sure to include Rain Tight as I’m confident Jason will be competitive. Most importantly, you will be hiring a professional who truly cares about his customers, his roofing team and the product he delivers."

"Amazing! I don’t have ANY complaints! Hayner and his crew are the true definition of professional. They painted the outside of my house (from a pale yellow to a beautiful blue) and a job well done is an understatement. Anyone that walks by my house compliments the transformation. They not only completed on time, they came back a few times after completion to handle any concern I addressed, I’m a bit OCD. Again, Hayner and his team did A+ work. Will hire them again for future jobs & refer them to anyone who asks for a general contractor. Thank you Hayner & co!"

"My bathroom remodels performed by Intelligent Home Services were the best contractor experience I’ve ever had. They performed the work on schedule, were extremely communicative throughout the process giving me daily updates on work to be performed and when to expect the craftsmen to show up, and performed quality work all for a great price. They were even there for me when unexpected water damage due to my upstairs neighbor’s pipe led to me having to jump right into a master bathroom remodel one week after finishing the spare. The tile and drywall work were impeccable. Ben, the owner and licensed contractor, stayed involved throughout the process and made frequent visits to check out the work. I am a professional engineer who works with contractors regularly so I know good project management and construction services when I see them. If you’re looking for a contractor with knowledge and integrity who can perform quality work quickly and for a great price, then look no further."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Metal stud framing parts include the studs themselves, upper and lower tracks that act as top and bottom wall plates, various angle fasteners and clips, screws for fastening pieces togeher, metal straps, c-channel supports, and thicker steel supporting structures. Roof framing metal components include pre-fabricated trusses, heavy-gauge stud pieces, and various plates and fasteners.

It’s best to use two screws to secure deck boards into every joist. Securing the boards to every joist makes the deck more structurally sound, while using two screws on the outer sides of the boards can help prevent warping and cupping.

Yes, ceiling joists are typically load-bearing. However, their primary function is to support the weight of the ceiling and loads applied to it, like lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. They can also help support the roof, especially if they’re part of truss systems. Remember, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling joists depends on the material, size, and space between them.

The easiest way to tell if a wall is load bearing is to check if it’s an exterior wall or if it runs perpendicular to the joists above and below it (or parallel to beams). Exterior walls are almost always load-bearing, and walls that run under beams or parallel to them are also usually load-bearing. There are exceptions to these rules, and walls that don’t fit into these categories can still be load-bearing. If you’re unsure, hire a structural engineer to look at your home to assess whether or not the wall is structural.

If you remove a load-bearing wall to create an entrance to a carport or covered patio, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. Factors such as the type of addition and if that area needs additional work will add to the price.
