Couldn't have gone better. Adam came over to give an estimate within an hour of our calling him. We consulted with many other companies, with some being lower and some being higher but what I was most impressed is Fortress was they were only one that showed me all of their licenses, references, proof of insurance, and roofing manufacturer accolades without my having to even to ask for them. In working with a contractor all of that stuff is very, very important. Ashley brought over samples a few days later and within 2 weeks they were on my roof. It took about 3 days and the cleanup was excellent.
One nice touch they did is they painted the PVC plumbing vent pipes and the metal flue pipe to match the color of the new shingles so they blended in nicely. I didn't realize how much those white PVC pipes stood out until Fortress literally made them disappear.
"[Removed Member Name], it was an absolute pleasure working with you! Thank you so much for allowing us to be your preferred roofing contractor! We love when our customers take the time to provide feedback of their experience with us, and love even more when our customers rave about us! We hope to serve you and your friends & family again in the future with any repair, maintenance, or replacement of gutters, soffit, fascia, and roof needs you may have. Thanks [Removed Member Name]!"
A friend of mine had used Fortress in the past and highly recommended them. The owner of the company (Adam) was at my house less than 2 hours after asking for a bid. He took all the measurements he needed in about 20 minutes ( I have a rather large roof) and put together the bid about 30 minutes later.
What I was most impressed with was before he even gave me the price he showed me copies of his Liability Insurance, his DOPL license, workmans comp information, and letters stating that his suppliers trusted Fortress so much that mechanics liens would not be an issue. As a former home inspector I was very, very impressed by all of this, along with the accolades from his supplier, bank, and others. He was the only one of 6 that provided me with this info. without asking for it.
Because it was winter (he bid it out in late November) weather could be an issue but he assured me that none of the roof would be unprotected after the workers had left for the day (it took 3 1/2 days to complete). That was important as well. Adam didn't spend a lot of time trying to upgrade me to things I didn't feel I needed but I because of my past inspector history and doing some research I went with a GAF roof with all of the GAF underlayments and snow guards. What was also really cool is they painted my plumbing and flue vents to match the new roof so they didn't stand out. Before I had galvanized steel and white PVC pipe exposed everywhere. Painting them was pretty classy and it looks awesome. I also elected to go with ridge venting instead of the previously-installed turtle vents. It's extra cost but very well worth it due to the size of my roof and the number of ridges I have.
His crew also did an excellent job of cleanup and I couldn't find even as much as a nail or nail washer after they finished. It has since rained or snowed almost every day since installation was complete and I cannot see any issues or leaks at all. They did a great job and I give them 2 thumbs up.
Fortress was not the cheapest nor were they the most expensive, but I knew they were one of the best. I'd hire them again in a heartbeat.
"[member name removed], I would love to how how I can improve our relationship with you. I was unaware that anything was awry or missing, so please let me know what you need. You should have received the warranty from GAF directly, and I believe I sent you a copy as well back on 10/13/14 because I normally do just as a back-up. If not, I can call GAF and ask them to resend it to you. The bottom line is we care about you and value you as a customer. Please call me at your earliest opportunity so that I can know what to do to resolve any concerns!"
The above work was completed in a timely fashion and Fortress provided a written guarantee of their work with their $676 invloce.
After the work was completed it did not rain or snow for a number of weeks. After the SLC area received a heavy rain storm a number of weeks later it became obvious that the quality of the gutter/downspout work was lacking. The gutter end caps that they installed on the upper gutters were not sealed and leaked and I could see daylight between the downspouts and the upper gutters. The length of the downspouts were also too long which diverted the water from the roof onto the masonry (which was what I was trying to prevent.
Fortress Roofing was called on numerous occasions in late November and early December 2014 to come out and do some final repairs. They never returned my calls. I was finally able to get in touch with Adam in their office and he said another person would call me back to schedule the work. It is mid January 2015 and I still haven't heard back from Fortress Roofing.
My feeling is that their written guarantee is not worth the paper is written on! Consider using another roofing company! If they can't get the small jobs done right, they certainly won't do the large ones well!
"I've included the chain of office emails regarding (member name removed) for your review, but in a nutshell (member name removed) believed some work was done improperly and notified us on Dec. 1st. Another technician was sent in Jan. but (member name removed) asked that we not perform any work until his exterior renovations were complete. We've since followed up by phone 3 times with no answer as to when we may proceed to move forward."
The workers were pleasant and professional.
The work appears to be beautiful. Weather will determine the quality of the work.
My only complaint is my furnace located in the attic was not covered and a lot of dirt and debris fell into the furnace.
The result is the ignitor burned up trying to start the dirty furnace. It cost me $200 to have it fixed and it could have been prevented by a $5 tarp thrown over the furnace for protection.
They used air pressure to blow out leaves, broken pieces & dirt from the gutters.
"[Member Name], thank you for taking the time to leave this fantastic review! We are excited to work on another project with you and will be looking forward to hearing from you when the time comes! Give us a call!"
