"Chris and his crew were wonderful. His tile guy, Jose, is amazing and was meticulous about the tile placement. We had 2 patterned tiles and one geometric shape and it was all laid perfect. I had all of this work done on our house while we were living in a different state. Chris made sure to keep me updated, send pictures, and let me know about any hiccups (like my vanity being defective). I completely trusted him and his work and wouldn’t hesitate to use him again for anything. He was recommended to us by a neighbor and I will continue to recommend him!"

"I was looking for laminate flooring. We ended up buying luxury vinyl flooring. It was suppose to have a limited life time coverage. In less than a week the flooring was scratched from my husband sitting at his desk. They would not replace the flooring. They did not have the correct trim. They were supposed to leave the overage which they did not. Very unhappy with them."

"Fantastic. The whole process is made simple by the professionalism of Noel in the Sales office, and Donnie in the fabrication facility. The Donnie's many years of experience with stone shows through in the final product. Extremely satisfied from start to finish. These folks care about making sure the customer is beyond pleased at the end of the day. This is our second project with Queen City Kitchens, and if I can find any other places to add stone, I will only go here. Excellent service. Great people. Folks you can trust."

"I needed a fast response to clean carpets in a rental home before the new tenants moved in. Anthony worked overtime one night to accommodate me and did an amazing job. The carpets were thoroughly cleaned and looked great. My wife was so impressed that she immediately hired him to do the carpets in our personal home - and they came out looking wonderful as well. I highly recommend them - wish I could give them an A+."

"Our technician Curtis Burdines showed up on the scheduled day on time and went straight to work. We had our 3 season porch tile and exterior travertine patio cleaned and seal. Curtis paid attention to details and did an excellent job. We are very pleased with the service we received and would use Sir Grout again in the future."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Tile shouldn’t be set tight against the tub. Bathtubs can expand when filled, and they can shift slightly with the weight of occupants. For this reason, it’s important to leave a slight gap between the bathtub and the first row of tile. Aim for a narrow gap of approximately 1/16 of an inch, filled with caulk, to allow for this expansion and movement while still allowing for tile shower waterproofing.

Your floors should be completely level for tile, otherwise you risk damaging the tiles in the future. When there are even small gaps or hills in the subfloor beneath the tile, this puts more pressure on the tile when you walk around on the floor. With repeated traffic, the tiles are at risk of cracking, and you’ll have to deal with tile repairs sooner than if the floor was completely level.

Yes, but you should only put tile directly on drywall in smaller areas that don’t experience excess moisture. For example, a small kitchen tile backsplash could work, but installing tile directly on the drywall in a bathroom or other chronically damp area is not a good idea. Either way, a cement backer board is a far more reliable solution, as drywall is susceptible to moisture and can warp or cause your tiles to crack.

When working on your bathroom floor tiling, you should always tile the floor first and then refit the toilet afterward. This has both practical and visual advantages—the tile will have a better seal, and the installation will look cleaner.

On the other hand, when you try to cut the tiles to fit around the toilet, you’re putting yourself at a disadvantage. It’s a lot more work, it’s hard to be precise, and mistakes or miscalculations can lead to future moisture damage to the tiling, grout, and subfloor.

The reasons not to install flooring underneath a bathtub outweigh the benefits. A properly installed bathtub will keep water from reaching the unprotected subfloor underneath. Installing a tub on top of finished flooring can lead to damage and scratches to the new floor. Also, a small leak from a tub drain may be more difficult to notice if finished flooring impedes water drips.
