"If you need a great tile installer, Chris is the guy. This is my second project using Chris in the last 9 months. He previously replaced the tile on my front porch with travertine stone and just recently did my kitchen backsplash. Both projects turned out fantastic. He is professional, friendly, does exactly what he says he will and shows up on time. Quality of work is excellent. Cleans up after the job like they were never there. Follows current face mask/Covid protocols while in your home. Will definitely hire him again for my next tile project. I feel like his pricing is very fair based on the nature of the work performed and the end result."

"Very responsive customer service. They called within minutes of my Home Advisor request. They quickly arranged to meet to determine my project scope (new kitchen backsplash). They provided a quote at the project scope meeting. I called later to confirm them as my choice and we set up a date, and I paid 1/2 total price. They left a voicemail with the start time the night before the scheduled project start date. A crew of one arrived on time on the start date. He finished the tile backsplash that day, but needed to come back the next to grout. Grout was finished the next day. A supervisor came by in two-three days to inspect the work and get our feedback. He did some minor caulking cleanup and I paid the remainder of the bill. All of the employees were courteous, friendly, and timely. No drama. They arranged the project around my schedule. They met me when I was available. I totally recommend Footprints Floors."

"Tim came out to give us the estimate. I told him we had a $4,000 budget and he said he would see what he could do keep us within that range. We were very thankful that he actually called later that day and gave us a quote under our budget which left us extra money to buy new fixtures and tile. Tim was very professional and courteous. The first day Tim and Russ came out to take up the old tile. This took them almost all day. Once they were done they cleaned up and carted all the old tile away. Russ worked on the renovation for the next 4 days. He was very sweet and polite and always made sure things were tidy before he left for the day. The bathroom turned out better than we ever expected. Russ did a wonderful job with everything. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for quality work at a fair price. I will definitely be calling on them for other projects around our house."

"We hired Gidawe Drywall LLC to repair cracks between the ceiling and wall that appeared after the popcorn was removed from the ceiling by a different contractor. The service provided was 1) drywall repair, 2) plastering and 3) painting. David provided a reasonable quote and began work almost immediately. I am a particular person and I am more than completely satisfied. David’s workmanship is excellent and the repair looks perfect. He provided the service exactly as I had asked. David is friendly and easy to work with, punctual and pays attention to details including post work clean up. We heartily recommend David and Gidawe Drywall."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Ideally, you should remove tile before installing hardwood floors, but there are good reasons not to. Removing stubborn tile can be a labor-intensive job that adds days to the project. The subfloor beneath the tiles could also be damaged during the process, meaning you’d have to repair the subfloor before installing the new hardwood floor.

If you’re handling your tile removal yourself, seal the room using painter’s tape and heavy-duty contractor bags to prevent dust and shards from escaping. Use a claw hammer or a pry bar and a mallet to get behind the tile and pry it away from the floor or wall. Once your tiles are all removed, sweep everything into contractor bags for disposal, being careful not to overfill them. Make sure you wear a dust mask, safety goggles, and work gloves to keep yourself safe from injury while you work.

On average, tiling a shower costs between $1,800 and $5,000, with most people paying around $2,700. The price of this project depends on multiple factors, including the kind of tile you choose, the size of your shower, and labor rates in your area. If you decide to tile your own shower (instead of hiring a professional), it’ll likely cost $800 to $1,400.

Glass tiles are among the most difficult to install. This is because their transparency makes the adhesive visible, and any imperfections on the opposite side are also likely to be visible. Glass tiles also must be handled carefully during installation, as they are prone to scratching. For these reasons, glass tiles often require professional installation to get the most out of their beauty and unique look.

Yes, you can install a backsplash directly onto drywall, provided the wall is properly prepped, clean, and dry. For best results, especially in kitchen areas, your walls should be made of moisture-resistant drywall, often called green board. If your current wall isn't moisture-resistant, it's recommended to replace it before installing the backsplash. For even greater protection against water damage, you can remove the existing drywall and install a tile backer board or cement board instead. While properly installed standard drywall is typically strong enough to support a backsplash, some local building codes may require water-resistant materials in kitchen areas, so it's a good idea to check.
