"Easy to contact - quick and thorough inspection and quote. Quote came in significantly less than 2 other contractors Communication prior to and during the job was excellent. Work performed quickly, with frequent updates. Set-up and clean-up for the job was professional. Roof looks great. Have already recommended to family."

"The B & R team was a pleasure to work with through the whole process, from quote to paying after the job was done. We had heard water dripping onto a ceiling on our second floor during a heavy storm, and called several roofers for quotes. Five different companies came out, two of which wanted to replace the whole roof, and three that said it should just be repaired. During that process, several of the companies mentioned that our chimney needed repointing as well, so we added that to the job. Robert Jr. came out for B & R on a Monday after I had spoken with them on a Friday, and I had detailed quotes in my email that night for the work. They were quick to respond to questions by email, text, and phone. Once I got them the signed contract, they were in touch within the week to get the work scheduled, and had their mason and roofing team on site two weeks after I had gotten them the contract. A day and a half later, I had a beautifully repointed chimney with a cap, rotted wood around the base of the chimney replaced, perfect flashing, and a roof that no longer leaks at all. The team kept me informed throughout the process, letting me know about any issues they encountered and keeping me posted on their timelines. After they were done, they cleaned up the site completely (and even cleaned up the leaves and sticks that were in the driveway from a recent storm). The final price came in just slightly over the original quote because they had to replace more wood than they were originally expecting around the base of the chimney - it took more materials and more time than what was covered under the original estimate, but only cost a little more than the quote. All in all a great process, and I'd highly recommend Robert Jr. and the team at B & R for any roofing or chimney related work that you need."

"We have owned our home for 7 years. In that time Marshalls has replaced 11 windows and our roof. Each time we contract with Marshalls for work we are repeatedly blown away by the quality of the work and the professional demeanor of all their employees. This company is without equal in the home renovation arena. They refuse upfront payment until they are done with their work and the customer is satisfied. The crews doing the actual work are extremely competent in their skills are pleasant and extremely clean. From the office receptionist to the guy with the hammer the are a solid professional company I do not hesitate to recommend this company absolute first rate they will be returning to my home for more renovations in the future...i wont accept anyone else."

"We got a brand new roof this week thanks to N.E. Building & Restoration LLC! We bought our absolute dream home but it had one problem from day one-the roof. We were able to buy 4 years, kind of clinching our teeth, because let’s face it, roofs are a huge investment especially on a house this size. But David and N.E. Building and Restoration was amazing from the initial estimate visit (showing up surprising me with a Mary Lous Coffee) to the work being completed in the most timely and efficient manner. They were so quick and accommodating from start to finish. A great company with a very personal touch and attention to detail. We’ve dealt with many home improvement companies this year and they are on the top of my list. Just in answering calls, answering all of my questions, and in being professional and knowledgeable about the work and products, and most importantly they were kind (which is huge in my book). So, thank you Dave and company! Check out my new roof and if your like us and dragging your heels to get a roof, just hire these guys!"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

No, you can’t use your home’s square footage. You have to calculate your roof’s square footage, and then you may have to convert your square footage measurement to correspond with how the roofing material is measured. For instance, some roofing is sold in “squares,” which equals the total square footage of the roof divided by 100. Shingles are sold in bundles that may not correspond to the number of squares you need. Metal roofing is sold as sheets, so determine the amount of square feet each panel will cover and then divide the total square footage by the coverage area.

Torch down roofing is only one of the options available for your home. Depending on your type of roof, if it is a gable or hip roof, torch down roofing might not work for you due to the slope. Asphalt, metal, and clay shingles are just a few popular roofing options that may be more suitable.

Due to the complexity and weight of tiles, DIY is not recommended. Professional installation ensures proper alignment and durability.

A well-maintained tile roof can last anywhere from 40 to over 100 years, with its exact lifespan depending on the material and level of care. Proper maintenance, which includes keeping the roof clean, free of debris, and performing routine repairs for any cracked tiles, is crucial for longevity. The lifespan varies significantly by tile type:

  • Clay, terracotta, and slate tiles are highly durable and can last over 100 years.

  • Concrete tiles typically last from 30 to 100 years.

  • Metal tile roofs generally last between 40 and 70 years.

  • Composite tile roofs have a lifespan of 20 to 50 years.

Be aware that maintenance for a tile roof can sometimes be more expensive than for an asphalt roof.

Generally, hailstones that are one inch in diameter or larger can cause significant damage to a roof. However, smaller hail can also cause damage, particularly when accompanied by strong winds, if it strikes an aging or poorly maintained roof, or if hailstorms are frequent in your area. Hail that is ¼ inch (pea-sized) or smaller poses a minimal risk of immediate, permanent damage, but cumulative impacts can cause deterioration over time. The extent of the damage also depends on the roofing material; hail-resistant tiles like slate or certain types of asphalt shingles can withstand impacts better than other materials. If you are concerned about potential damage after a storm, it is always a good idea to have a professional roofer conduct an inspection.
