Gary brings a great craftsmanship to the project and has artistic perspective that help make the project flow and support in progress decisions. Gary took care of everything in the bathroom including carpentry, tilework, electric and plumbing. No. Drywall anchors aren’t a good choice for hanging a cabinet because the opening and closing of the cabinet door can cause things to shift, the weight of a mirror is more than most drywall anchors can accommodate, and adding the weight of items stored in the cabinet will make this an even more precarious option. Using the correct mounting bracket for the cabinet you choose is the best way to hang a medicine cabinet.

It’s best to stick with lightweight cabinets, such as medium-density fiberboard, if you don’t have a wall stud to secure them to. Unless you’re attaching the cabinet to a flat board attached to wall studs, it’s best not to risk it with heavy cabinetry or contents. Solid wood cabinets and heavy dishware should be avoided if you cannot secure the cabinet to a wall stud. Either way, always check the weight on your wall anchors and be sure not to exceed it.

There are some tips when hiring a cabinet installer that’ll help prepare you to create a new space. When installing new cabinets, keep the following in mind:

  • Hire the same cabinet installer professional to measure, design, and install the cabinets, as opposed to jumping between companies. 

  • Discuss what types of cabinets the installer offers, including stock, semi-custom, and custom, to give yourself options.

  • Discuss financing options with your installer, as this project can be expensive depending on your chosen cabinets.

  • Discuss your cabinet installer’s prior experience, including asking for photos of previous projects.

Birch or maple plywoods have tight grain patterns and are dense species that hold up well over time and even in damp environments with proper sealing. These properties make them the most stable plywoods. Oak plywood is also an excellent option. However, care is necessary to ensure oak is well-sealed against moisture to ensure stability.
