"After a bad winter with some issues with ice dams, decided we needed to get some gutter work and new downspouts and also had a chimney contractor no show so had to find another to do the work. Called a few places and had quotes from Old Dad Shook and another place. Old Dad Shook looked to have the better price and seemed to have better reviews so went with them. I had a busy summer so planned the work for fall and had gotten a call in June to start the work but let them know it could wait and I gave them a call in August and they were able to come out a couple weeks later to do the work. The day came and the first day, they worked on chimney pointing and capping the chimneys as well as painting and patching the box gutters. It was a pretty hot day so they spread the work over two days and the second day they took off the old downspouts and put on new downspouts. They did a nice job of attaching everything and setting them up. Unfortunately, we had an issue with the elbow on one of the downspouts on the ground that took some time to get taken care of and also had some leaking still around the chimney with a heavy rain that they came out and took a look at and sealed up the best they could"

Ram jack of Ohio is a full service foundation repair company servicing the Cleveland, Akron & canton areas. Established in 1992, ram jack of Ohio offers solutions for the residential, commercial and industrial market.

"TLDR: Avoid at ALL costs. We engaged with RamJack to get a quote for the foundation repair at a rental property of ours. We received a quote, and roughly a month later (on 7/25) after having closed on the property, we executed the quote through their online portal. A day or two later, I received a voicemail from Kim at their office asking how I wanted to pay the deposit (just shy of $6,500). After a few rounds of phone tag, we were able to pay the deposit via card with a 1.5% fee for the card transaction. At that time, Kim relayed that they would be in touch "soon" regarding scheduling the work. After a few weeks, I reached back out to their office and was told that the work would begin in "late September or early October" as they had a few larger jobs in the queue that needed to be completed before they could start ours. On October 27 - after unsuccessfully reaching out through their website - I tracked down a personal email address via their dormant company Facebook page and contacted the owner of the company by email. I referenced our contract number and the cancellation clause in the quote turned agreement and requested to cancel our contract and an update on the timeline for returning our deposit. Later that day, the owner responded claiming that he was not aware of our project and requested the address. I shared the contract, the address, and the dates that the contract was signed and when I spoke with his office staff. On 10/28 he called me while I was in the middle of a work meeting, so my husband took the call. The owner (Skip) proceeded to give my husband a song and dance about our contract not matching the name in their system and a disorganized office staff and that was why our project had not been included on their schedule. He concluded by saying he would go to the house "today" and be ready to start the project "on Monday". In fact, he did go to the house on 10/28 because we received a message from our tenant asking why he was there. On the call, my husband reiterated that we were canceling the contract and wanted our funds back. Skip confirmed that he would get us the money "ASAP" and requested we text him our address so he could "drop off the check tomorrow". On 11/1, my husband followed up to receive a timeline for the refund with no response. On 11/2, I followed up and indicated that if we did not receive the funds in a timely manner we would be forced to go through a Legal route. Skip immediately responded in an inappropriate manner and clearly took an aggressive defensive position. Throughout the remainder of the day he sent condescending text messages including stating that his holding our deposit and not refunding it was "your problems are not my problems." We finally received a check in our mailbox - hand delivered - on 11/9. Upon depositing the check at our bank on 11/14 (delayed due to the Veteran's Day holiday bank closure) we assumed that the issue was closed. As of today, 11/16, the check has bounced. Not only do we not have our deposit returned (nor the % fee charged to process it by credit card) but now we will also incur fees with our bank for depositing a bad check. Upon notifying Skip that the check bounced his entire response was "there's money in the account." Clearly, we will end up going the Legal route at this point which will only result in us spending even more money to try to get our money back."

Matthews Wall Anchor Service has been serving homeowners in and around Pittsburgh, Youngstown and Cleveland for over 30 years. As a nationally recognized foundation repair and basement waterproofing contractor our services include basement waterproofing, foundation repair and basement wall repair. Matthews offers a variety of products and services to permanently correct basement and foundation problems. Award wining. Additional DBA - MWA Acquisition LLC .

"The salesperson David was very honest and had no interest in upselling. He strongly advised against any interior drains for my basement, and he instead recommended an exterior drain called HydroBlox for my backyard. The estimate for the HydroBlox was $3,400. The installation occurred a few weeks later. Three employees used a machine to dig a trench in my backyard, and then because of utility lines, they hand-dug another trench in my side yard. They installed the pieces of HydroBlox and covered them with dirt. I expect the HydroBlox to properly drain the water from my yard, but if they do not, then I will update my review in the future."

FAQs for basement waterproofing projects in Pittsburgh, PA

Due to the nature of basements, some level of waterproofing is necessary to prevent water from seeping in and causing damage. Some definitive signs that your basement needs waterproofing measures or needs existing waterproofing measures need to be updated include:

  • Water in your basement, including damp walls or puddles on the floor

  • Mold spots in your basement

  • Musty smells or odors

  • Warped doors or walls

  • Cracks in walls

  • Insect issues, such as cockroaches and termites

You can DIY basement waterproofing in some ways to help save on the overall costs. If your basement isn’t experiencing a lot of water but is noticeably humid, you can try running a dehumidifier that will pull the excess water out of the air. If you notice water leaking due to outdoor drainage issues, you can add downspout extensions to keep rainwater away from your home.

However, if the problem is more severe and requires a more extensive solution, it’s best to call a basement waterproofing professional to assess the treatment you need and install waterproofing safeguards properly. Since keeping water out of your basement is important, ensuring this job is done correctly the first time is best.

Damp proofing and waterproofing are both methods to help keep your basement dry. Damp proofing keeps soil moisture from entering your basement, which is helpful since your basement is underground. Waterproofing, however, keeps both soil moisture and liquid water out of the basement, which is essential, especially if you live in a wet environment. Because it’s more protective, waterproofing typically costs more than damp proofing.

Several factors dictate if you should waterproof the interior or exterior of your basement. Waterproofing the exterior of your home is a great option if you use your basement for storage, as it provides the most protection from water and water damage. If you prefer work done outside of your home versus inside, exterior waterproofing is best for you. However, interior waterproofing is often less expensive since the area is easier to reach and requires less labor.

The cost of basement waterproofing is $4,950 for the average homeowner. However, you could end up paying between $600 and $14,000, depending on factors like basement size, waterproofing method, and the region you live in.

If you live in an area with heavy rainfall, you might be paying more for waterproofing than if you lived somewhere drier since waterproofing contractors would be in high demand. Likewise, a 500-foot basement costs between $2,500 and $5,000 to waterproof, but that price rises significantly for a larger basement.
