"We have used Joe many times over the course of many years. He has replaced water heaters, fixed leaking sinks, replaced garbage disposals, fixed broken toilets, done work on the propane lines in our house - you name it, he’s done it. When my daughter slammed our glass shower door into the showerhead and broke the showerhead pipe BEHIND THE WALL, he somehow managed to fix that pipe without having to cut open the drywall-I still have no idea how he did that. He is very responsive, very professional, meets his commitments every time, and his work has been fantastic. Joe has been our go-to plumber for many years, I would highly recommend him!"

"The project seemed to turn into something unexpected. I have a flush-up toilet that needed a new macerator installed. The pipes were realigned and the macerator installed, but the toilet didn't seem to work right. Their technician Mark immediately went into figuring out what could be wrong. Checking the pipes, analyzing the owner's manual, and calling the manufacturer of the toilet. He ran a few tests and figured out what was wrong. Flush-up toilets are notorious for being difficult, but Mark figured it out. I really appreciate his efforts to resolve this problem. Thanks, Very Satisfied Customer"

"Zoom Drain was great !! Everything was explained by Rob on Friday when he came out. Service was provided the day we called due to hearing gurgleing in the kitchen sink when the toilet was flushed. Rob found a blockage in the drain box outside our house which he cleared. On Sunday we found that we were still having some brief water backup into our basement laundry tub when the bathroom toilet was flushed, Kyle came out that afternoon and determined that part of the issue was that the Municipal Sanitary Drain was running slow. Kyle even pulled the Municipal Manhole cover in the street to confirm that the water level was much higher than expected. He spent the time to make sure our drain was as clear as possible and even called our local borough office to inform them that the Municipal drain seemed to have a blockage. We saw a truck on our street this morning and were informed that a large grease plug was found in the municipal drain on the street next to ours. They cleared it on Sunday night and were checking the line upstream from where the plug was to make sure everything was clear. Thank You Kyle. Thank you Zoom Drain Norristown. Highly recommended !!"

"UPDATE: After speaking with the owner of the company he was able to take care of all the issues I had. I am now completely satisfied. ORIGINAL COMMENT: I had a leaky seal on a toilet and a bad water shutoff valve. The plumber replaced the leaky valve with no problem. But they tried to upsell. I a new toilet ($1,000.00) When all I needed was the replacement of a six-dollar seal. Then to force the issue after replacing the water valve they failed to replace the waterline on the existing toilet to entice me to spend $1000 that was unnecessary. They were going to leave my home with the waterline uninstalled and me without a working toilet. After pointing this out as they were ready to leave the plumber went and got a waterline cut the water valve back on and my toilet worked perfectly this was a blatant attempt to upsell me a toilet a $1000 toilet I did not need. I will not be using this plumber company again I cannot trust them."

"David is a great find, He's friendly and likeable. His rates are extremely favorable. He was on time and did neat and clean work.He even went out of his way to repair work done on our toilet by an earlier plumber. I'd rate him a "10" and will recommend him to anyone needing plumbing work."

"We planned to redo our entire bathroom in the late summer when drains for shower and sink stopped /slowed draining. Workman spent hours replacing cracking parts for our sink drain, but ultimately, based upon 40 old pipes, determined it would be cheaper to just wait til redo is done. He did inform of this probability prior to starting work, but we had reasons for the attempt."

"Very professional and personable technician. He wore shoe covers to minimize dirt being tracked into the house. His work was as follows:  Replaced a broken 15+ year old shut-off valve for the bathroom toilet, chased down the valve for an outdoor faucet, and provided tips on how to make a tub faucet and valve look like new instead of replacing since they worked fine already. All work done in less than 2 hours.

Toilets questions, answered by experts

A wax ring can often last the entire lifespan of a toilet, which is typically 20 to 30 years. However, it may need to be replaced sooner if it becomes damaged. Signs that your wax ring needs replacement include bad odors or leaks coming from the base of the toilet. The wax can also dry out, flake, or crumble if the toilet was not secured correctly upon installation or has become loose over time. If you notice your toilet wobbles, it's a good indication that the wax ring may be compromised and should be inspected to prevent leaks.

To drain a broken toilet, place towels or plastic sheeting around the base in case of splashing or overflowing. Next, shut off the toilet’s water supply, usually via a valve on the wall behind the toilet. Begin flushing the handle to remove as much water as possible from the tank and the bowl. Don’t flush the toilet if it’s clogged, though. From there, use a large sponge to soak up any remaining water and wring it over a bucket.

Yes, a bathroom remodel is a worthwhile home improvement project that typically adds value to your home, offering a return on investment (ROI) between 60% and 70%. Potential buyers look closely at bathrooms and kitchens, as these are often the most expensive rooms to renovate. A modern, updated bathroom is more appealing and assures buyers that the plumbing, fixtures, and flooring have a long, useful life ahead. Beyond the financial return, a remodel can also greatly increase your day-to-day satisfaction by creating a more inviting, spa-like space. Even a basic refresh with new paint and accessories can make a significant difference.

Toilets typically connect to your main vent stack, a vertical pipe that runs through all finished levels of your home and exits through the roof. It’s located behind the walls, but if you have an unfinished basement or a utility closet, you may find a portion of it running the vertical length of the space. Some basement toilets use an air admittance valve instead, which is a small vent located in the wall directly behind the toilet that extends upward a few feet from the drain.

The cost of making a bathroom accessible can be $3,000 to $25,000, but you could spend as much as $50,000 building a brand-new ADA-compliant bathroom. Some bathroom accessibility upgrades to consider include:

  • Installing grab bars: $100–$500

  • Lowering cabinets and vanities: $1,200–$2,500

  • Installing modified doors: $700–$1,500

  • Installing a modified toilet: $400–$1,000

  • Installing an accessible sink and faucet: $100–$1,000

  • Adding a walk-in tub: $1,100–$17,000

  • Converting a bathtub into a walk-in tub: $350–$1,000

  • Installing a wheelchair-accessible shower: $2,000–$7,500

  • Installing a shower ramp: $16–$300
